30th June 2016 Term 2, Week 9

Tumuaki Kaiwhakahaere: Bruce McMillan

IMPORTANT Welcome, Haere Mai, Nau Mai, Malo e me'a mai, Afio mai to all of our existing pupils UPCOMING and those who have joined us this term. We hope to have another fabulous year!! DATES

School security Security has continued to be an ongoing concern. We have recently had another pupil’s shoes stolen and we are currently reviewing our CCTV footage to see if we can find the culprit. We do apologise, but, it also means that if we have people in the school and we do not know why they are there, we will ask. It also means we will not allow the school to be used as a ‘short cut’. I would like to thank the voices of concern from our community and the offers of help have been much appreciated.

Friday 8th July End of Term 2

Monday 25th July Term 3 begins Friday 23rd September Term 3 ends Monday 10th October Term 4 begins

School Assembly Some of you will note that our assembly time has changed to Thursdays at 2.00pm. Next term it will change again to Fridays at 2.00pm. We have not quite got the timings right for this change yet. We are working on it and I assure you we will improve. To those parents that were left waiting for their children to return from assembly (in the rain, no less!) we thank you for your patience. As always parents are welcome to attend our school assemblies.

Monday 24th October Labour day—school closed Friday 16th December Term 4 ends

Absences The only time a child may be absent is due to illness. The phone number to call is 2988417 (press 1 for absences) or 021 141 1422—TEXT ONLY Friday 8th July, last day of term, school finishes at the normal time of 2.30pm Term 3 begins promptly at 8.30am, Monday 25th July.

New Staff members We would like to welcome two new teachers to our school. Ms Denise O’Neill will be taking over Room 10 while Mrs Read goes on maternity leave and Miss Josie Robinson will be in Room 6, which will be a start up class for Year 0-1. Please feel free to come in and see them if your child is in their class, to welcome them to our school and community.

Parent teacher interviews This is a big thank you to all the family and friends of the school who attended the interviews over the last two days. The weather was really rough but to those of you who showed up through the rain and wind we thank you. If you did not have the opportunity to meet with the teacher/s of your children please feel free to make an alternate meeting time at the school office or directly with the teacher. It is unlikely they will be able to meet you during school time but if they have a release day they may have a chance.

The first child to come to Mr McMillan and explain what this whakatauki means and how it applies to their life gets a prize!
