Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) is the world’s leading auto-maker over the years, the Japanese automaker had built up a reputation for manufacturing reliable cars. Toyota’s products are a byword for quality so that its manufacturing techniques are followed even by its competitors world over. Toyota’s Commitment to manufacturing world class and quality automobiles was entrenched in its entire manufacturing philosophy right through the development stages to manufacturing. At Toyota, quality is builts into each manufacturing process and employees from all divisions ensured that defective items did not pass on to the next process. In the beginning of the new millennium Toyota expanded its production facilities rapidly in a bid to grow globally and to achieve its goal of becoming the number one manufacturer in the world. But customers began to face safety related problems in Toyota Vehicles. Later, a series of results followed which has put the company’s hard earned reputation for quality at risk. But some analysis felt that Toyota had become a Victim of its success. As the company was aggressively expanding globally, it lost its focus on quality and failed to maintain quality standards as tis overseas plants. Questions : a) Do the cross-cultural issues influence world class manufacturing ?
