international experimental poetry conference: Poetics, Critique and Reception October 25th and 26th, 2012 MACBA, Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona Introduction The research group Poció, Poesia i educació1, within the frame of the government sponsored project “Catalan Experimental Poetry between 1959 and 2004”, is organizing the International Experimental Poetry Conference: Poetics, Critique and Reception, to be held at the MACBA (Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona) on October 25th and 26th, 2012. Theoretical debate about literature has not given much attention to these poetics, nor has been interested in analysing the most radical and innovative practices. However, current publishing, museographic and programming trends in Europe and the United States show that the interest in experimental poetry is growing, and the development of specific and efficient analytical tools is essential for understanding and explaining the contemporary world. Therefore, we are setting out this international meeting of experts on the topic with two aims: to contribute towards the connection of the complex links developed by experimental poetry since the 60s, and to foster discussion on new critical discourses and analytical tools for this boundary art. The objectives that we propose are: 1. Helping to build models of analysis appropriate to the diversity of formats used in experimental poetry. 2. Drawing a map of the different poetics linked to experimental poetry. 3. Studying the reception of this type of poetic expressions by the public and critics.

Call for papers The Conference themes will be:
1. Experimental poetry models of analysis: before such a variety of formats and works; how to achieve a model of analysis? What can literary theories offer, for instance, Reception Theory and Cognitive Poetics? Which instruments can be offered by art theory, the semiotic study of theater, or the analysis of audiovisual communication, for understanding some types of experimental poetry? And, on the other hand; are there well defined sub-genres? If so, who cares about studying, spreading, and reviewing them? 2. Reception: who are the users? Are users different depending on how/where these works manifest (exhibits, conventional books, theaters, auditoriums, collector’s books, etc.)? How are their reactions? Is there any specialized critique for this kind of poetry? Is this kind of poetry taught at educational institutions? 3. The author’s perspective: often times there are authors of this kind of poetry who explain their intentions on interviews, catalogs, articles, etc. But, could a unified poetic be described? Is there any connection between the purpose explained by a poet, and the reception by the public and critics? Are these works really “open”? Requirements for submission of proposals: 1. Provisional title. Explicit mention of the theme (one of the three mentioned above). 2. 5 key words. 3. Summary (450 word limit). 4. Curriculum vitae (200 word limit). 5.
