The Parent Volunteer Program is a great way for parents/ guardians to provide support and set an excellent example for their children. Volunteers can provide help during at school during the school day, before or after school, and even from home. Confidentiality of student information and respecting the personal safety of students is expected of volunteers. Volunteers who have access to student information or direct contact with students will be trained prior to serving as a volunteer.
Volunteer Job Descriptions Front office: Serve under the direction of the Principalʼs Secretary and are expected to model professionalism to teachers, students and guests while serving as a front desk receptionist which includes answering phones. Also, may help teachers as needed to make copies and other light clerical work. Library: Serve under the direction of the librarian to re-shelve and inventory books, light clerical work, and supervise students using library passes during recess.
Testing Monitors: Monitor standardized tests in April and May. Commitment: About 4 hours during the school day depending on how many tests you volunteer to monitor. Training: Test
Monitor training is required and provided by Irving Middle School Test Administrator.
Homeroom parent: Serve under direction of homeroom teacher, and with other parents to bring snacks for special occasions, prepare materials for activities, or help teachers with special activities. Parent Teacher Conference Guides: Help parents find their childʼs teachers and help keep conferences on schedule. Mentor other parents when requested to help them benefit from the parent teacher conferences. Commitment: 1 to 2 times a year after school.
Fundraisers and Events: Serve under the direction of the PTSA President or Committee chair to help with fundraisers and other PTA events. Commitment: Mostly out-side of school, but occasionally during the school day depending what you sign up for.
Teacher Appreciation Events: Serve under the direction of the Teacher Appreciation Committee Chair. Provide refreshments for Parent Teacher Conferences, and help with meals during teacher appreciation week.
Lunchtime Recycling Monitor: Help train students during lunch time on Mondays to recycle cans and bottles. Bring recycle bag home each week for curbside recycle pick up.
