Implementing Telecollaboration in Georgetown Foreign Language Classes: A Panel Discussion Initiative for Multilingual Studies (IMS) Panel Discussion #1 Date: Tuesday, January 20 Time: 11:30 – 2:00 p.m. Location: Leavey Program Room (across from the bookstore) Light refreshments will be served ABSTRACT: To prepare students to participate and communicate adequately in more authentic L2 settings we must go beyond the traditional face-to-face (FTF) exposure commonly found in classrooms. With this in mind, members in the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL) joined together to implement Teletandem at Georgetown to promote intercultural communication and language practice through videoconferencing. Initially tested in Portuguese classes in 2008, last fall Arabic, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish implemented Teletandem using course models that best fit their curriculum. This panel discussion will feature faculty members and instructors that participated in this project as part of the Provost's Initiative on Technology Enhanced Learning (ITEL) with the support of the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS).
