IMAGES OF THE CITY After almost 10 years, veteran photographer Mani Lama, with a legacy of taking pictures for over 40 years, exhibits his images of Nepal. Known for his "Postcards of Nepal" project, "Nepal: The Himalayan Kingdom" (the coffee-table book), and his work done for various national and international organizations, the maestro of the lens is exhibiting his legacy of photos- in black and white - from all over Nepal, at Yala Mandala. The photographs will be on display at Yala Mandala until July 15th, 2017. The event is a collateral event for the recently concluded Kathmandu Triennale.

Son of Chini Lama, the protector of the Boudhanath stupa, Mani Lama has always been fascinated by the play of light and its reflections in the minds of the onlookers, and has portrayed the prospect of capturing a moment in time and telling a story about the characters and places in his current exhibition. Lama (born in Boudhanath, 1946) is a freelance photographer, although his main work has been documenting conditions in Nepal for development organizations: the UN and its many agencies, Terre des Hommes, Save the Children, and German Aid. He also has contracts with the Nepal Government Department of Information and Communication. He was awarded the inaugural Photo Kathmandu award for his contributions to Nepali photography in 2015.

Currenty, Lama is working on a book that depicts the renovation and restoration of Boudha. "I was right there when the earthquake struck, and I have been documenting since the day they started putting scaffolding around the pinnacle of the stupa", he states. Lama has been capturing images of the Bouddha stupa, from the damages the stupa received after the earthquake on April 25, 2015, to heartening scenes of locals coming together to preserve the piece of relic.
