Profession by Starting with what is Doable. The 2013 National Conference challenged everyone in the profession to identify what change is doable. As interpreters in educational settings sometimes the lists of what other people want us to do is overwhelming. While each of you is encouraged to set a doable goal for yourself, the Council has set the following goals for IEIS: The IEIS Member Section aims to 1) Increase communication to IEIS members (via newsletter, brochure and internet) 2) Develop a letter to be sent to each state’s Board or Department of Education that will explain the need for highly qualified interpreters which will positively affect the academic achievements of DHH students 3) Region Delegates and State Liaisons will make contact with the state’s Board or Department of Education 4) Collaborate with RID to have clear information about what is happening within IEIS. 5) Promote professional development CEUs on local, state, and national levels of RID.
