What are the uses of standard classifications in TM/CAM







Standard classification is under preparation in Japanese and English by JLOM. Although ATC classification of 305 Kampo formulae was attempted in 2005-2006, the project has been suspended due to 1) technical problems in classification and 2) need for international collaboration. What statistics do we need to collect on TM/CAM?








National health insurance covers the TM patterns in modern words. Although 80% of physicians use Kampo medicine in daily practice, most of the physicians claim for reimbursement with ICD disease name. Six diseases are covered by national insurance system in acupuncture practice. Scientific (evidence of effectiveness and safety) Policy-related (Budget planning, promotion/incentive, regulation, etc)

What are the benefits of the ICTM project?







Statistics of Kampo pattern can be made. Relationship between pattern and the ICTM will be explored. WHO project promotes the Japanese government to proceed the statistics of Kampo. Statistics of acupuncture practice also can be made. Scientific analysis of mass population promotes tailored medicine Solution for quality and safety issues in procurement of pharmaceutical materials

What are my questions about the ICTM project and Project Plan?







How to proceed the TM contents model? How to solve the conflict of national contents model in each country? Relationship between international level and national level users? How to integrate ICTM into national insurance system? Invited members of Hong Kong mtg? Clarify the positioning of herbal classification and coding in WHO-FIC

Do I have any suggestions for the ICTM project and Project Plan? Development of the clear outcome image of the contents model.
Liaise ISO TC215 and 249, and report back to ICTM members.
Keep transparency of the process of ICTM.
Action plan to incorporate other TMs including Ayurveda.
