School and Community Founded in 1983, the International Bilingual School at Hsinchu-Science-Park (IBSH) is a highly competitive, academic-oriented college prep school. Situated in Taiwan’s “Silicon Valley,” the high-tech Science Park, IBSH is a public, co-educational school. The school currently enrolls 541 students grades 1-12 and has a full-time teaching staff of 67, which provides an ideal teacher to student ratio of 1:20. The total enrollment in the high school is 227 students, with 51 in the class of 2016. The school serves students in the English-speaking community seeking an American college preparatory education and planning to attend university anywhere around the world or here in Taiwan. Students come from business, professional, government, and diplomatic families. IBSH Mission Statement: IBSH takes pride in offering a bilingual and bicultural education in a tight knit community that encourages the pursuit of excellence. We aim to inspire students in becoming innovative, inquiring, and compassionate self-directed learners who strive to make a difference in the global community.

Entrance Requirements: Students whose families have lived abroad a minimum of 2 consecutive years and whose parents hold a master or a PhD degree may be enrolled at IBSH if one of the following criteria apply to their families. 1) A parent must work in the Science Park. 2) A parent must be employed by a university located in Hsinchu County. 3) A parent must work for Taiwan’s diplomatic corps. Additionally, new entrants must pass an English proficiency test. Foreign passport holders are not automatically eligible for admission; they must meet one of the previously-stated criteria. About forty-percent of the parents have PhD’s. Accreditation: IBSH is accredited by the ROC Ministry of Education (MOE) and is administered by both the MOE and the Ministry of Technology and Science. In addition, IBSH is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Graduation Requirements and Grading Scale: All students are required to complete 23 course credits. The GPA includes all classes taken in the International Bilingual School from grade 9 and is on a 4.8 weighted scale. IBSH does not rank students. Academic Curriculum: IBSH students face a rigorous 5-day week, 7 courses a day, schedule. IBSH is on a two semester system with a 200-day school year; we have one major break in the school year between semesters which includes Chinese New Year. We offer an Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum and a variety of Honors (H) courses, in addition to regular (R) level courses. English is the language of instruction. However, MOE requires students to take Chinese language each year, taught by native speakers. Extra-Curricular Activities:
