Directions: Be sure to involve the whole family in these activities. Remember that you have one week to complete the activities. Return the bag to school on Friday. 1. Read How Much is a Million?. Answer the following questions while you read the story. How big would bowl be if it could hold one million goldfish? If you were the person standing on top of one billion children, what would you see? How long would it take you to count to one trillion? 2. Think about things that would fit in your living room. Could you fit one million couches in your living room? Why or why not? Can you think of something you could put a million things in your living room? 3. Play “Operation Space Chase". 4. Try to make the largest 6 digit number with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. You can only use each number once. Explain how you know it is the largest 6 digit number that you can make. 5. Reflect-Parents and children answer in your journal areas. Why do you need to know place value? What did you like best about this bag? What additional activities did you do with place value?
