ANDREW JACKSON HIGH SCHOOL Andrew Jackson High School aims to develop students with world-class skills and life and career characteristics that meet or exceed the Profile of the SC Graduate. Through a rigorous curriculum in the core classes combined with focus opportunities in fine arts, career tracks and military, our well rounded students are excelling at district and state levels. In the 2014-2015 school year, 89.1 percent of Andrew Jackson High students received an ACT WorkKeys certificate, compared to a district average of 85.9 percent and a state average of 87.9 percent. In addition, 71.0 percent of its students scored 3 or higher on the AP Calculus exam in the 2014-2015 school year, compared to a district average of 61.0 percent. In 2015, students at Andrew Jackson High earned a mean SAT Critical Reading score of 476 (compared to a district average of 460 and a state average of 488) and a mean SAT mathematics score of 492 (compared to a district average of 467 and a state average of 487). As the district’s designated fine arts school, we offer students five arts focus areas including chorus, dance, art, band, and drama. Students in these designated areas have an opportunity to earn AP credit in Art and Music Theory. With a strong desire to ensure that our students are college and career ready, we also provide opportunities to explore career and technology courses along with military experience through JROTC. Through a partnership with USC-L, our students also have the opportunity to earn dual high school and college course credits that can put students almost a year ahead in terms of the college track. In an effort to ensure that we are properly preparing our students, we have created a feedback loop with former students to tell us how we can continue to improve and better prepare our future graduates. Our most successful graduates are often the ones who were the most well balanced students, so we provide a variety of athletic teams along with clubs and organizations so that our students can find the right fit for their skills and passions. Competing in Class AA, we field ten highly competitive athletic teams and boast of 11 clubs and organizations ranging from academics to service to special interest. These extracurricular activities build skills like teamwork, dedication, and work ethic, which all benefit our graduates after high school. The dedicated teachers and staff of Andrew Jackson High School want to ensure that the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate is synonymous with the profile of our own graduates.
