Educational Services Division Title I Program Millard Public Schools Omaha, Nebraska Holling Heights Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy 2016-2017 Holling Heights School has developed this Parent Involvement Policy in partnership with school staff, parents, and interested community members. This policy has been distributed to parents of participating children and to the extent possible, in a language that parents can understand. This policy is also posted on our school website. Parent feedback on this plan is always welcome and the plan is updated annually to meet the changing needs of the school community. Part I: Policy Involvement Holling Heights Elementary School will: 

Convene an annual meeting to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I and to explain the requirements of Title I and the right of the parents to be involved.



Offer a flexible number of meetings. A schedule of School Improvement Team meetings is attached to this plan.



Involve parents, in the planning, review and improvement of Title I program and in the development of the Schoolwide Plan. Parents will be surveyed annually to assist in evaluation of the plan.



Provide parents with timely information about Title I programs along with a description and explanation of the curriculum used within the school, information about assessments used to measure progress, and information about proficiency levels.

Part II: Shared Responsibility Holling Heights Elementary School will work with the School Improvement Team to review and if necessary, modify the Schoolwide (Targeted) Parent Compact. The approved Compact is attached to this plan. This compact outlines how the parents, the school staff, and students will share responsibility for student achievement and work as partners to help students succeed. This compact is distributed to parents and communicated in a language that parents can understand. Additionally, Holling Heights Elementary School will implement high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables 09/02/2014 Page 1

students to meet the state and district academic standards. Parents will be provided with individual reports of their child’s performance on State and District assessments, along with an explanation of proficiency levels. Selected interventions will be implemented, utilizing scientifically researched-based resources and strategies to support individual student goals. Progress will be monitored on a regular basis and benchmark assessments in literacy and/or math will be administered 3 times per year. These assessments will guide decisions regarding instructional goals and intervention plans. Goals are reviewed with parents. Holling Heights Elementary School will hold conferences during the months of October and February. Parents have the opportunity to sign-up for daytime or evening conferences. Conferences are conducted in a language that parents can understand through the use of interpreters or Language Line. Parents receive written reports from the classroom teacher and Title I teacher at the end of each quarter. While conferences and written reports are a standard part of our program, parents and staff are also encouraged to communicate regularly through email, phone calls, classroom visits, etc. Parents may request a meeting with classroom and/or intervention teachers. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities. Title I funds may be used to pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with parent involvement activities, including transportation, childcare or home visit expenses to enable parents to participate in school related meetings and training sessions, if required per need. Part III: Building Capacity for Involvement To support a partnership among the school, parents and the community to improve student academic achievement, Holling Heights Elementary School will provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding State and District standards and State and District assessments. Parents will be provided with training and resources to help parents work with their children to support academic achievement: a. MPS Parent Handbooks b. Title I Parent Event handouts c. Title I Parent Resources d. Parent/teacher conferences e. Open House f. Kindergarten Registration; Parent Packet given out to parents g. Early Years (sent home to parents monthly)

Part IV: Accessibility Holling Heights Elementary School, to the extent possible, shall provide full opportunities for participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, in a format that is practical and in a language that parents can understand. We continue to expand our resources that facilitate communication with all families. These resources include, but are not limited to: *Forms/informational resources in multiple languages *Bilingual liaisons to assist with interpretation and communication *Language Line *Interpreters available upon request to facilitate conferences/communication Parents have been asked to identify the family’s preferred language for communication.
