Beginning date to apply. To be considered for the Academy, students must be enrolled or have an application on file with HCC. Students new to HCC should apply to HCC via www.applytexas.org AND submit an HCC Engineering Application to email [email protected] or to fax 713-718-6884. Prequalification notification from HCC will be released on or before this date, and a link will be provided for applying to Texas A&M for formal acceptance into the Academy program. Texas A&M Engineering Academy application opens. Texas A&M Engineering Academy application closes, and all application credentials must be received by the Texas A&M Office of Admissions. Decisions will be released on or before this date. Students will have this deadline to accept an offer of admission.

Please note there is a Mandatory Orientation for all Academy students. Two sessions will be offered: one the last week in July and one the week before classes start in August. Students must attend one of these all day orientations. Characteristics that make a student a good candidate for the Academy:  Student is ready for Calculus 1 (MATH 2413) and Chemistry 2 (CHEM 1412). (Pre-Calculus and Chemistry 1 students may still apply.)  Student has at least one year worth of courses left to take at HCC.  If a current college student, the student has a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher. GPA will include repeat courses. Students with a cumulative GPA less than 2.5 will not be pre-qualified.  Student has a flexible schedule for classes. This is a cohort program. Most of your classes will be taught on the Spring Branch campus at designated times.  Student is committed to a rigorous schedule including a math, science, and engineering course each term. WHY the Academy? The Texas Workforce Commission projects that there will be a 25 percent growth in engineering jobs in the next seven years. In response to this anticipated growth and the increased demand for Aggie Engineers, the Texas A&M College of Engineering has created the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at HCC. This program provides talented students an opportunity to pursue their engineering degree in a co-enrollment program, supported by Chevron, and between Texas A&M University (TAMU) and Houston Community College.

Some benefits of the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at HCC include:  Optional early entry to an engineering major at Texas A&M  Taking engineering courses previously reserved only for students admitted to the Texas A&M College of Engineering (taught by TAMU faculty)  Taking your math, science, and engineering courses with the same students on the Spring Branch campus and developing a community of engineering academic peers  Enrolling in top-quality courses offered by HCC with smaller student-faculty ratios  An economical pathway to Texas A&M University  A strong application into a degree granting major within the Texas A&M College of Engineering. Academy students gain an academic advantage by participating in the program, earning Texas A&M engineering course credit and successfully completing all program requirements.

*Academy students are allowed to take ENGL 1301 and ENGL 2311; regular transfer students need ENGL 1302. ** TAMU has an International and Cultural Diversity (ICD) requirement. Students should take a course from the list for Creative Arts. http://icd.tamu.edu/

For more details on the Academy, please go to: http://engineering.tamu.edu/academies/hcc For more information on how to transfer to Texas A&M through their regular transfer process, students can go to http://admissions.tamu.edu/transfer/majors and click on the College of Engineering link. Students can scroll down to the Engineering Discipline they are interested in for details on what HCC courses to take and the competitive requirements for transfer to Texas A&M. Students can visit an advisor on any HCC campus to discuss this information and ensure they are on the right track.
