TOMS RIVER HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH 55 Hyers Street Toms River, New Jersey 08753 732-505-5745 Fax: 732-797-1658 COMMUNITY and LOCATION Toms River Township is located in Ocean County, New Jersey and serves as the county seat. It is a suburban community with a population of approximately 90,000 and is included in the New Jersey Registry of Historic Places. Toms River is located within a 65 mile radius of New York, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City. Our close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean provides many benefits from the influx of summer visitors to the resort towns along the seacoast. Since there is little industry in Toms River, the town has attracted a large number of residents from managerial and professional positions dedicated to high educational standards. The Toms River Regional School District is a kindergarten through twelfth grade public school system that is currently the largest suburban school district in the state of New Jersey. The school district includes 12 elementary schools, 3 intermediate schools, and 3 high schools. Toms River High School South, established in 1891, is the oldest of the three regional high schools. It is a comprehensive, 4-year public high school with programs available in college preparatory, career and technology, and vocational education. The student population includes residents of Toms River, and the neighboring communities of Beachwood, Pine Beach, and South Toms River. The student enrollment of approximately 1,400 is evenly distributed among grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. The staff consists of 4 administrators, 7 supervisors, 1 guidance coordinator, five guidance counselors, 115 teachers, 2 nurses, 1 librarian, 1 attendance officer, and sufficient secretarial personnel for each department. Toms River High School South is located one block from the center of town and is easily accessible from the Garden State Parkway. Get off at Exit 82, follow Route 37 East to the first traffic light and turn right on Main Street (Route 166). Go approximately six blocks to Legion Court and turn left. Proceed one block to stop sign and turn left on Hyers Street. You will see High School South a block away on the right side at the top of a small hill.
