B.E. I – Year (Supplementary) Examination, January / February 2015 Subject : Engineering Graphics Time : 3 hours

Max. Marks : 100

Note: Answer all questions from Part-A. Answer any FIVE questions from Part-B. PART – A (35 Marks) Are the following statements correct. a) The shape of the view from the side of a straight line is again a straight line, when it is parallel to both the reference planes. b) Icosahedron is made up of regular pentagons. 2 Construct a regular Octagon of side 40 mm by General method. 3 An automobile car is traveling at 80 km per hour. The scale measures up to 60km. What is the time indicated by the length of the scale. 4 Draw the projections of a line when it is parallel to VP and inclined at 450 to HP. The view from above measures 30 mm. What is the true length of the line? 5 Give the detailed classification of solids. 6 State the quadrants in which the following points are situated i) A point ‘D’, its top view is 35mm below XY line and its front view is on the XY line. ii) A point ‘C’, its top view is 35mm above XY and its front view is 25mm below the XY line. 7 Is it possible to have full view of both the surfaces (Top and Base) of a prism in any one of the way the solid is placed. Explain. 8 Define the terms Isometric view, Ground Plane, Frustum. 9 What is the difference of First Angle Projection and Third Angle projection in Orthographic views? 10 Sketch the development of surface of a cube of 45mm side. 11 a) Construct the Vernier Scale when 1.5cm on the scale represents 1.2m actual length, to read up to 16m. Also show on the scale the distances of 12.65m and 8.37m. b) A cricket ball is thrown; it reaches a maximum height of 10m and falls on the ground at a distance of 20m from the point of projection. Draw the path followed by the cricket ball and name the curve. Assume the point of projection to be at the ground level. 12 Draw the top and front views of a Hexagonal Lamina 30 mm side, having two of its edges parallel to both HP and VP. The nearest edge is 15mm from each plane. The surface of the lamina is inclined at an angle of 60 0 to the HP. …...2

Code No. 9008 -213 A square pyramid, whose faces are isosceles triangles of 40 mm base and 60mm height is lying on one of its triangular faces on the HP. The projection of the axis of the pyramid on the HP makes an angle of 300 with the reference line XY. Draw the front and top views of the pyramid in the given position.

14 A right circular cylinder diameter of the base 50mm and height 75mm lies on one of the end points of the diameter of the base in HP such that its axis is inclined to VP at 30 0. A section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 450 to HP cuts the cylinder bisecting its axis. Draw the front view, sectional top view and the true shape of the section of the cut cylinder.

15 A right circular cylinder of diameter 60mm and height 90mm, resting on its base in H.P. It is completely penetrated by another cylinder of 45mm diameter and 90mm long such that their axes bisect each other at right angles and are parallel to V.P. Draw the projections showing the curves of intersection.

17 A square pyramid of side of base 40mm and axis 50mm long, rests with its base on the ground plane such that all the edges of the base are equally inclined to the PP. The station point is 60mm in front of the PP, 80mm above the ground plane and lies in a central plane which passes through the axis of the pyramid. Draw the perspective view. ******
