Government and University Support of the West Papuan Genocide; and Attack of the Free West Papua Party To: Chancellor Belinda Hutchinson AM University of Sydney, and the Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham Minister of Education and Training CC: FWPP Supporters It is with distaste that the Free West Papua (political) Party (FWPP) is compelled to question you two about your contribution to the West Papuan Genocide and your ‘attack dogs’ that are nipping at the FWPP. The FWPP requests that you immediately cease these evil actsi. This letter is broken down into the following sections: 1. 2. 3. 4.

1. Government Support of the West Papuan Genocide There is growing public knowledge that the Australian Government helped create and is sustaining the West Papuan Genocideii. The following points provide an overview of this public knowledge: 

 

The Australian Government signed the Lombok Treaty. This treaty stinks of treachery and treason to both Australians and West Papuans. In particular, in this treaty the Australian Government officially recognises Indonesian sovereignty over West Papua; more and more people across the world are realising this is evil. The Australian Government refuses to acknowledge UN Resolution 1514 and facilitate West Papua’s right to independence. The Australian Government currently supplies arms and training to the Indonesian Military. The Indonesian Government is responsible for the following civil massacres of its own people: o West Papua Genocide 500,000; o East Timor Genocide 200,000; o Chinese Genocide 2,000,000; o Maluku 700,000 refugees; o Aceh 100,000 refugees; and so on. Why is the Australian Government training the Indonesian Military to kill their own people?

It appears that the Australian Government is behaving like the neighbour from hell by arming the Indonesian Military and leeching the profits from various business interests in West Papua at the expense of the West Papuans.

2. University Support of the West Papuan Genocide (~Counterfeit Support) The Universities of Australia appear to be behaving like an agent of a government propaganda machine to white wash and rewrite the history of Australia, Indonesia and the West Papuan Genocide and generally dumb down and neutralise. Examples of this are as follows: 



The University of WA recently awarding former Indonesian president His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) an honorary doctorateiii. SBY oversaw the genocide of some 200,000 East Timorese and continuation of the West Papuan Genocide of some 500,000. Many want to recognise SBY for war crimes and crimes against humanity. But you chose to give him and honorary doctorate “in recognition of his contribution to global affairs and long-term advocacy in building strong relations between Australia and Indonesia”. Congratulations! The 700,000 genocided East Timorese and West Papuans applaud you for your flexible view of reality! The University of Sydney’s (UoS) Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies runs a ‘West Papua Project’ (WPP) team. The FWPP suspects the WPP of either being at best a rouge group misappropriating public resources to attack the FWPP on what might be considered a territorial war; or at worst a government vehicle for counterfeit support. The following subsections will look at some of the WPP suspect behaviours, which are: o Peaceful Dialogue o Infiltration into West Papuan Support Forums o Other Suspect Behaviours



Peaceful Dialogue According to the UoS web siteiv, the stated primary goal of the WPP is to promote peaceful dialogue between the people of West Papua and Indonesia. At first read, this sounds nice but the logic is fundamentally flawed and the FWPP go as far as to say that may be flawed by design when considering the following line of reasoning: What the Australian Government wants is a peaceful status quo where Australian companies can continue to exploit West Papua with the minimum of fuss. The Australian Government has no intention of supporting UN Resolution 1514 where it states that every people group is entitled to their independence. That’s where the WPP comes in with its objective of ‘peaceful dialogue’ so businesses can continue on as usual to exploit West Papua.



True peaceful dialogue can only really happen when there is a balance of power, equity and respect between the two parties. For example: o Can a chicken negotiate with a fox? o Can a sex slave negotiate with the sex trafficker? o Can the victim of domestic violence negotiate with the violator? o Can the victim of a murder negotiate with the murderer? o Can West Papuans who are being genocided negotiate with their killers? Thus, the FWPP does not trust the WPP’s objective or actions. Genuine vs Counterfeit Support To be able to expose counterfeit support for West Papua we need to know what genuine support looks like. The FWPP states that genuine support for West Papua includes the following three actions:  The Australian Government to abolish the Lombok Treaty.  The Australian Government to stop equipping and training the Indonesian Military.  The Australian Government to request a referendum for West Papuan independence. Further details on these three points can be obtained from the FWPP. It is noted that some West Papuan groups have been in peaceful dialogue with Indonesia for over 20 yearsv. The FWPP is of the opinion that both the Indonesian and Australian Governments do not want West Papua to be free and so peaceful negotiations that drag on forever is perfect. Peaceful dialogue is also the same strategy that the US used in the first place when it handed West Papua over to Indonesia to be genocidedvi. A further irony is the WPP web linkvii contains an embedded link to a statement that attacks Reclaim Australia and the FWPP, as per the below web page excerpt.

The title of the attack mentions Reclaim Australia but the real focus of the attack appears to be to bring down the FWPP. Why does the WPP, that claims ‘peace’, attack others in a public lynch mob fashion? Why does the WPP attack the FWPP with a passion that would be better directed at the Australian Government? The FWPP believes that the Australian Government has more say in the fate of West Papuans than the Indonesian Government does. The Australian Government has copious amounts of West Papuan blood on its hands but the WPP uses its vitriol to attack the FWPP instead! The FWPP is of the opinion that this is because peace and freedom are not the WPP’s real agenda and instead agendas, such as the following are suspected:  keeping West Papua under Indonesian control; and  protecting their own WPP meal ticket.

Infiltration into West Papuan Support Forums At least one member of the WPP, Jason MacLeod, has infiltrated himself into several forums where the objective is West Papuan independence. This seems to be in direct conflict with the objective of the Australian Government and the WPP. So why is Jason MacLeod at these forums? FWPP wonders whether this has been undertaken to neutralise the well-meaning efforts of the people at these forums and introduce counterfeit objectives. FWPP contacts at the Vanuatu summit for West Papuan independence (2014) and the Brisbane meeting of West Papuan solidarity groups assisting with West Papua’s independence (2015) have indicated that Jason MacLeod’s behaviour has not always been supportive of the objectives of these forums. Other Suspect Behaviours The FWPP want to know whether the WPP is the source of counterfeit messages and behaviours that have effectively delayed West Papua’s freedom. Some of these have been identified as the following: 



“We Australians are not supposed to free Papuans” This counterfeit message goes along the lines that Australia should not get too involved and just give moral support to the West Papuans in their own struggle. The FWPP sees this view to be fundamentally flawed. The Australian Government helped create the genocide and is sustaining the genocide. How is West Papua supposed to free itself when the Australian Government is training and equipping West Papua’s killers? FWPP’s focus is to change the heart of the Australian Government. The FWPP believes that the Australian Government has more say in the fate of West Papuans than the Indonesian Government does. Some of the WPP reports have been read by the FWPP and it appears on occasions that they are light on exposing the Australian Government’s treachery to West Papua and the Australian people. Also they are light on encouraging or supporting action directed at the Australian Government in order to free West Papua. This could be a case of not biting the hand that feeds them.

3. University Attack on the Free West Papua Party The FWPP has been under attack from members of the UoS WPP. It appears that the attack was undertaken using public (university/government) funds and resources. At best the attack might be interpreted as misappropriation of public resources to attack the FWPP on what might be considered a territorial war. Or, at worst the attack might be considered as the Australian Federal Government using public resources to attempt to shut down the FWPP as the FWPP seeks to expose the government’s West Papuan agenda of exploitation. The attack on FWPP includes the following: 

As soon as Mr MacLeod, of the WPP, heard about the formation of the FWPP he immediately attempted to gag and destroy the FWPP without fair and reasonable public discussion. Mr MacLeod did the exact

opposite of what he is supposedly ‘hired’ to do as part of the ‘peaceful’ WPP. He behaved as if he was leader of the ‘Thought Police’ and did his best to poison people against the FWPP. Mr MacLeod appears to of contacted many of the West Papuan contacts likely established through the UoS WPP and used his UoS WPP position to lobby the contacts against the FWPP. Mr MacLeod, or possibly one of his associates, is sabotaging FWPP events, and the like. On one such occasion Mr MacLeod, or possibly one of his associates, contacted the Freedom Sumit (Byron Bay) event organisers which FWPP was booked to speak at and tried to dissuade them from having the FWPP speak. Is this acceptable UoS behaviour? Will the UoS and WPP continue to try to shut down the FWPP? Will you continue to use taxpayer’s money to do this? The FWPP chose to speak at a Reclaim Australia rally and Mr MacLeod, and associates, took the opportunity to publically attack the FWPP in print in a public lynch mob fashion and used UoS WPP resources to do it. A copy of the attack is posted in the UoS WPP web page under the heading “West Papua Solidarity Movement Rejects Reclaim Australia”viii. The attack contains no facts to justify to its attack. The FWPP published a response easily debunking the WPP attackix. Does the FWPP have to put up with government and UoS supported attacks that contain suspect propaganda?

4. Free West Papua Party Demands that You Act Justly The FWPP demands a comprehensive action from the Chancellor Belinda Hutchinson AM University of Sydney and the Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham Minister of Education and Training. The actions demanded are as follows:  

The FWPP demands that you call off your WPP ‘attack dogs’. The FWPP demands the right to truly assist West Papua without your dogs sabotaging its efforts. Full public apology to the FWPP and its leaders stating that the Government and the UoS regret the behaviour of the WPP and its attack on the FWPP. The FWPP will review the apology, its content, and method of broadcast before it goes out. The UoS WPP web page to be updated with the full public apology to the FWPP. In addition, an article drafted by the FWPP stating what real support for West Papua looks like shall be posted on the web page. Everybody that Jason MacLeod, and his associates, have contacted regarding the FWPP to receive a copy of the full public apology. An independent review and audit of the UoS WPP to be undertaken to determine the real objectives of the WPP and whether they are to help West Papuan independence or the Australian Government’s business interests. o The learnings of the review and audit should be used to form a new WPP with the objective of West Papuan independence. The FWPP demand the right to veto all objectives and members of this new group. Disciplining of those who comprise the WPP and attacked the FWPP. The FWPP suggest that these ‘attack dogs’ be redeployed to attack the University of Western Australia for giving away an honorary doctorate to a person who was never charged for war crimes and crimes against humanity. This would be a much better way to spend public monies. 

The UoS to host a West Papuan Independence forum covering all costs and inviting the FWPP, and associates, as key speakers.

This letter presents the Australian Government and University of Sydney with an opportunity to right some past wrongs and move Australia towards freeing West Papua.
