GENERAL INFORMATION RELATING TO THE POST OF GENERAL CLEANER This information is not contractual and is intended only as a guide to the terms and conditions which may accompany this role. All terms and conditions of employment will be confirmed prior to appointment. Appointment This is a fixed term position. If an offer of employment is made, it will be subject to: • • •

References received to the satisfaction of the Trust The outcome of a health check Successful completion of a probationary period.

Initially this post will be based in Penrhyn Castle although employees can be required to work at other Trust or non-Trust sites from time to time. All contracts of employment contain a mobility clause. Salary The post has a starting salary of £6.50 per hour. Payment is made monthly in arrears by credit transfer to a bank or building society account. Hours of Work Minimum 20 hours per week over 5 days including weekends and bank holidays. Hours: 8.00am to 12.00pm. In view of the National Trust's work employees can be called upon, from time to time, to work a reasonable period outside the set hours. Holiday Entitlement Full time employees receive 25 days annual leave a year plus Public Holidays recognised by the Trust. Part-time employment or employment for part of the year gives a pro-rata entitlement for both annual leave and Public Holidays based on hours worked. The annual leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Dates for annual leave must be agreed with your supervisor in advance giving as much notice as possible. Notice All appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of one month probationary period, though this may be extended if more time is needed to assess an employee’s suitability for employment. During this period the post will be subject to one week's notice on either side. A minimum of one weeks notice in writing on either side will apply during and after the probationary period has been confirmed. Retirement The Trust’s normal retirement age (NRA) is 65 although consideration will be given to any request to remain in employment beyond the NRA. Staff reaching the NRA during the course of their employment on a seasonal contract will normally be allowed to stay until the end of their contract if Page 1 of 2 January 7, 2011

they so wish. Pension A Stakeholder pension is available for all seasonal employees to join. The National trust has arranged access to a Stakeholder Pension Plan through Scottish Widows. Scottish Widows will send the employee literature on the pension plan direct to the individual after their first payday. Health & Safety All employees are expected to observe the Health and Safety at Work Regulations as they apply to the National Trust in accordance with statutory requirements. Contract All offers of employment are subject to a requirement to sign the National Trust’s contract of employment. This is a fixed term post for a period of 8 months. Business Interests During employment with the National Trust employees must not engage, be concerned with or have any interest, either directly or indirectly, in any capacity, in other trade, business or occupation, except with the prior written consent of their Head of Department. Relocation Assistance with relocation expenses may be available. Membership of the National Trust In accordance with the National Trust Acts, members of the National Trust may not profit from membership. Therefore employees are not eligible for membership of the National Trust, and they must resign their membership on appointment. Life membership will be held in abeyance for the period of employment. Seasonal staff must contact the Membership department to discuss their options. Staff Card A temporary staff card will be issued on commencement of employment that gives free admission to all National Trust and National Trust for Scotland properties.
