SDSU-GALACTIC UNITE SPACE SCHOLARSHIPS
APPLICATION FORM The SDSU Galactic Unite Space Scholarships program will award five $3000 scholarships to students interested and actively pursuing space transportation related design projects or research for the 2017-2018 academic year (starting Aug. 2017) and provide students mentorship and access to educational programs at Galactic Unite in partnership with Virgin Galactic. Eligibility Requirements a. b. c. d.
Applicants must be SDSU aerospace engineering majors Must be enrolled/enrolling in junior or senior year courses for Fall 2017 semester Have a minimum 3.0 GPA Have demonstrated an interest in space transportation (e.g. participation in SDSU Rocket project, AIAA Space Launch Design competition). e. Two letters of recommendation (SDSU professors or aerospace engineer or professional who has interacted with you in a technical capacity) f. Submission of a completed application (incomplete applications will not be reviewed) Galactic Unite Scholarship Recipient Expectations Should you be awarded one of the Galactic Unite Scholarships you will be expected to: Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Demonstrate good character. The selected recipients will be required to participate in the Galactic Unite mentorship program. Scholar will have the opportunity to select a mentor from Virgin Galactic or The Spaceship Company. Please be prepared to spend about 2 hours per month interacting with your mentor. A web link (or URL) to a 2 min video essay. The video essay should not be longer than 2 minutes.
The video should briefly introduce yourself, explain your career goals and dreams, your passion for space flight, your current participation in design or research projects related to space transportation, and a statement of how this financial support will help you develop as an aerospace engineer and propel you towards you goal of working in the space launch industry. Create a video and upload it to YouTube™ , make it publicly visible, and include the publicly accessible link to the video in your email submission.
