AFHS FLEX TIME The Flex Policy is designed to offer targeted learning remediation and extension during the school day for all students at AFHS. For the last 1/2 hour of 2nd period on most Tuesdays through Fridays, students have the opportunity to go to another classroom or lab in the school to gain extra help, accelerate learning, etc. !

In order to leave the 2nd period class, a student must have a stamp in their student planner from a teacher or faculty member, and must report to that location. Students who either leave class without a stamp, or do not report to the requested location will be marked truant for 2nd period, resulting in an NC and 2 hours of attendance school.!

Students must have their planners with them during the school day, and in hand during Flex Time as they move from their 2nd period classroom to their requested location. If a student loses their planner, they must purchase a new one in the financial office for $5.!

FLEX STUDENT PROCEDURES:

Step 1 Make sure your planner is with you at all times throughout the school day. Remember your planner is also your hall pass for Flex Passing Time. Do not lose your planner. The cost for a new planner is $5.

Step 2 Use your planner for more than just Flex Time. Set goals, list assignments and projects, and plan your time wisely.

Step 3 Help the class and teacher by having your planner ready to stamp as the teacher requests.

Step 4 When a teacher with a priority day stamps over the top of another teacher, it is the student’s responsibility to let the first teacher know they will not attend their flex session.

Step 5 Be proactive--request stamps from teachers as much as possible. Get the help and acceleration you need to succeed. You can request sessions to go to the computer labs and the Media Center as well.

Step 6 If you are requested for a Flex Time Session, be ready to show your 2nd period teacher your stamped planner to leave the classroom, keep your planner out, and go as quickly as possible to your assigned session location.

Step 7 DO NOT sluff your Flex Time Session. Flex Time is still part of 2nd Period, so you will be marked truant if you are in the halls after the Flex Bell rings (10:30).!
