Since 2011, GIST has engaged with more than 2.8 million innovators and entrepreneurs worldwide, and mentored over 4,500 startups that have generated more than $100 million in revenue. GIST inspires, identifies, supports, and connects young innovators across the globe through: • GIST Net helps the most connected generation in history advance their ventures by sharing and learning from peers and successful entrepreneurs with diverse backgrounds and experiences. GIST Net supports science and technology entrepreneurs in emerging economies as they build innovative new businesses to tackle their community's most pressing challenges. • TechConnects are live interactive webcasts on entrepreneurship topics that enable global youth to ask leading experts for advice. • Startup Boot Camps support science and technology (S&T) startups through hands-on mentorship, training activities and information on funding, led by U.S. and local entrepreneurs and investors. • The annual global Tech-I competition determines top aspiring S&T innovators through online video pitches voted on globally. Meet the TRAINERS

Marco Bravo, BS, MSTC

Marco Bravo is a Project Director at the IC2 Institute, The Univeristy of Texas at Austin.He is an engineer who has founded three companies and a business angel fund, and has mentored more than 120 technology startups and entrepreneurs. He has graduate studies University of Minho (Portugal), Mikkeli Polytechnic (Finland), Hannover University (Germany), Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and The University of Texas at Austin. In industry he has held management positions at Continental AG in Germany and Portugal. He has served as Advisor and Chief of Staff for the State Secretary for Science, Technology, and Higher Education of the Portuguese Government. He has worked extensively with entrepreneurs and innovators in growing tehcnology-based startups around the world.

Max Green, BS, MSTC

Max Green is an engineer with a passion for identifying strategies to translate early-stage innovations into successful products and services. As Project Director at the IC2 Institute he manages programs that teach practical, hands-on education to entrepreneurs and scientists around the world. Before joining the IC2 Institute, Max worked at The University of Texas at Austin’s Office of Technology Commercialization, NASA's Innovative Partnerships Program at Kennedy Space Center, and at Applied Materials Inc. He has established a deep understanding of the technology commercialization process, leading customer development efforts and negotiations to close more than 50 intellectual property license agreements. He is experienced in early discovery of product-market fit, establishing initial revenue models, facilitating engagements with investors, entrepreneurs and strategic partners, and negotiating corporate agreements.

Aprille C. Raabe, BA, JD

Aprille C. Raabe joined the IC2 Institute after three years with the US Department of State’s Office of Science and Technology Cooperation where she fostered international science and technology relationships with countries in Latin America, Europe, and Africa, to encourage joint research, innovation, and economic growth. A significant effort in her work was to engage the private sector and strengthen the links between basic research, innovation, and product development. Prior to this work, Aprille was Defense Counsel for Representative Don Young (AK). Aprille received her BA in Communication from Saint Mary’s College and a Concentration in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame. She received her JD from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she specialized in International and European Union law.

Sara Klucking, BA, PhD

Dr. Sara Klucking joined the Office of Science and Technology Cooperation in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) as the Global Engagement Lead. She came to the US Department of State from the Science and Technology Directorate of the US Department of Homeland Security where she managed a diverse portfolio of risk analytics, simulation modeling, and health security projects aimed at supporting science-based decision making in health security and counterterrorism program investments in DHS and the broader homeland security enterprise. Her federal service began through an AAAS Science & Technology Policy fellowship and included a year serving in the US House of Representatives as a Brooking Institution Legis Congressional Fellow. Dr. Klucking has a PhD in viral immunology from Harvard University and a BA in philosophy and biology from Macalester College.

Pedro Lopez Sela

Pedro Lopez Sela has more than 19 years of national, foreign and international experience in founding, incubating and investing in startups, instructing entrepreneurs, and consulting and advising startups, SME’s, global corporations, international organisations, think tanks, NGO’s and governments at the federal, local and municipal level. His background crosses disciplines such as innovation, creativity, management, strategic planning, marketing, strategic communications, PR, public and government affairs, lobbying, risk and crisis management, damage control, investor relations and research & intelligence. He has particular interest for business design and development, product & service development, code marketing, customer experience, merchandising and sense marketing. Presently he enjoys working as Co-founder and Managing Partner of Blanc Partners, SYZYGY, el Geek Power, and Fomento Geek.

Sarah J. R. Staton, BA, PhD

Dr. Sarah J. R. Staton is an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the Office of Science and Technology Cooperation in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES). Dr. Staton works to promote science, technology, and innovation entrepreneurship through international collaboration and education with a focus on women and underrepresented groups. She came to the Department of State from the Naval Research Laboratory where she was a National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral Fellow. For her research she has been awarded the Fulbright Scholarship, the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship, and has generated multiple pieces of patented IP. Dr. Staton earned her PhD in bioanalytical chemistry from Arizona State University and her BA in biochemistry from William Jewell College.

Cynthia Trager

Cynthia Traeger serves as CEO of Pacific, a technology holding company; and is also founder and President, VSI Pacific, whose key products provide data sonification and spatialization solutions for real-time applications. Most recently, Cynthia has been responsible for developing visualization-centric, sensor-fused location / motion solutions for Pacific's global private clients. She has a strong interest in marrying visualization, sensor-based localization and sonification technologies to support both research and commercial endeavors. Ms. Traeger also serves as Director, Washington DC Founder Institute; advises the board LFS; serves as a Trustee to the Board of Trustees, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology; was a participant and author with the American Bar Association's Digital Evidence Work Group, and has been a contributor to the Journal of the ACM Special Interest Group on Graphics.

AgroCambium intends to develop hydroponic greenhouses using more advanced biotechnological methods, such as nutrient solution flow and micro-propagation to improve crops, reduce costs and improve the quality of life of Mexican farmers. Our objective encompasses not only the production of common fruits and vegetables, but also expansion into more unusual products such as guar gum and stevia in order to meet increasing domestic demand. Amaranth snack bars are a healthier gluten-free alternative to the oat and other cereal-based snack bars which dominate the US market. We address the problem of crumbling in Amaranth snack bars by developing and patenting a natural, nutritious and delicious adhesive.

COA is a service which connects farmers in the same area and allows them to share their product transportation logistics. Properly used, it will help them to reduce costs, save time and deliver a higher quality crop.

Ecosistematics

Ecosistematics intends to build an insect mass-rearing facility to produce animal food for fish and poultry. We will breed mealworms, flies and crickets, and the insects will be fed with organic waste which will be dehydrated by means of a solar dryer. They will subsequently be mixed with enhanced probiotic flour which will provide more nutritional value to the fish and poultry.

Yoliztli Systems improves the preservation conditions of organs prior to and during transplant surgery. It will log and control the organ’s temperature at the optimal 4 degrees centigrade, minimizing damage from placing the organ on ice, which has the potential to cause ice crystals to form in the outer cells.
