Principal’s Message Dear families, February always proves to be a busy month even though there are less actual days at school. Attendance is extremely important; teachers are assessing students for the term 2 and students are finishing work for their Student Portfolios. Report cards will be sent home March 10th with Student Led Conferences on March 14 and 16th. Thanks to Mrs. Bev Pierce our FNMI Liaison who has recently planned two oral storytelling opportunities for our grades 1’s and 2’s. On Feb. 3rd we have FNMI dancing presentations as well as a school wide performance by Angela Gladue at 2:30 pm. Parents are welcome! Ash Wednesday and the 1st day of Lent is Feb. 10th. Please attend our liturgy at 2pm if you are available. Following the liturgy is the Black History Month Fashion Show. There will also be a presentation of some African Canadian contributions to society and a dance presentation by 2T. The next Parent Teacher Council meeting is on Feb. 17th. Babysitting is always provided. Please join us! Our PTC is planning another fabulous family Valentine’s Dance on Feb.11th beginning at 6:30 pm. Dance Tickets can be purchased in advance from the office for a chance at an Early Bird Prize pkg. On Feb. 19th we encourage all staff and students to wear pink in recognition of Pink Shirt Day (Feb. 24th) We encourage everyone to openly express that “Kindness is one size fits all”. We all have the capacity to spread kindness and that is the underlying philosophy behind the anti-bullying movement. Science Fair Club is underway! Thank you to Mme Nelson and Mr. Munro for supporting students through this “club” format. Students will be ready to present their projects to staff on March 7th. March 17th is the District Science fair at Holy Trinity High School and the Wood Buffalo Science fair will be held April 15th. We are beginning to plan our annual Carnaval d’hiver happening in early March. We are asking that families send in rinsed 2 Litre milk or juice cartons. These cartons become ice blocks to build our château de glace. Thank you in advance! the day of March 9th and, 2) prepare the maple syrup in the milk kitchen so it can be tasted by students as “la tire” during the afternoon. Please contact Mme Fidler if interested in helping. The Carnaval d’hiver day is amazing! Students do not have school from February 22 to February 26, as teachers will be attending Professional Development workshops in our city then attending Teacher’s Convention in Edmonton. Happy Family Day on Feb. 15th. I am hoping everyone gets in some quality family time! Have a fabulous month of February! Mme Fidler

Celebrating Black History Month Every year in February, we are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of African Canadians, past and present. We take this contributions done so much and awesome
time to celebrate the many achievements and of African Canadians who, throughout history, have to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate nation it is today.
During Black History Month, Canadians can learn about the experiences of African Canadians and their important role in the community. At École St Paul, we will will celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 10th, following our Ash Wednesday Liturgy. There will be a presentation of some African Canadian contributions to our society, a fashion show and a dance. Families are invited to attend!
PARENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED!!! 1) Busy Bees on Thursday mornings - parents laminate, cut and prepare materials for teachers, take down or prepare bulletin boards, etc. 2) Bottle Recycling once a month - the parent picks up our bottles from the C CAN along side the school, loads bottles and deposits them the bottle recycling depot. Our school will be taking part in the Winter Walk Day on Feb. 5th. It is sponsored by the Alberta Medical Association and Ever Active Schools. Parents are welcome to join us for the last half hour of the day, as we walk at the back of the school. Please have your children dressed accordingly
Counsellor’s Corner Our focus for February is KINDNESS … The counselling universal support in classrooms will include activity ideas for teachers to implement at grade level, a school wide bulletin board (“Acts of Kindness”), and class lessons as needed. The goal is to help students become more aware of doing acts of kindness and of their feelings of gratitude when they experience pleasant activities. We will strive to be givers of kindness throughout this month and beyond!! Please discuss the virtue of kindness with your child(ren) and encourage them to extend “acts of kindness” at home. Talking about their good deeds encourages self-‐reflection and helps bring meaning to actions. Reinforcement of the kindness habit comes with practice... Whether it’s helping a neighbour, making a get-‐well card for a sick friend, or simply inviting someone new to sit at the lunch table at school, there are many free and easy ways kids can help create a kind & peaceful world Joni Stryde
Throughout the month of February and March, St. Paul School will be promoting the #MyActiveFamily campaign. It can be hard to get motivated to bundle up to go play outside during the long, cold, winter months. We want to celebrate those of you who are getting out there! Share photos of you and your family getting outside and staying active this winter using the #MyActiveFamily via any social media website and join the many other Albertans who are doing the same. Don't forget to email your photos to Mme. Mandy
[email protected] so that they can be shared on our school television!
