Tena koutou katoa Dear Parents/Caregivers and friends, Swimming starts this week at Waimata school for Rooms 1 & 2 (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), and Waihi College for Rooms 4 & 6 (Tuesday and Thursday). Please ensure your child has their togs and towel for the appropriate days. Thank you to parents who are helping with transport to and from swimming, this is much appreciated and makes the process run smoothly. We are very fortunate that Music Lessons with Wella Tasma are again on offer at the school for children Year 3 and up. If you have not yet registered and would like your child to take Music lessons at the school on Mondays, please see Jan-Marie in the office for a flyer. Technology classes for Year 7 & 8 students start next Thursday, February 16th. From next week they must be at school on Thursdays by 8.20am to catch the bus for the technology classes which are in Paeroa. On Friday of the following week our senior students in Room 6 will attend a Leadership Day run by Project Energize. The feast day of St Thomas Aquinas has just been and as such we are holding a “mufti day” on Friday of this week for all children in Aquinas House only. They are to wear something blue to celebrate being in Aquinas House. We plan to run mufti days for the other houses during the year as their feast days occur. Police Vetting: A reminder that if you intend to be involved in any volunteer positions at school eg sports coaching, camps etc, please pick up a Police Vetting form from Jan–Marie at the office.

Wishing you a great week ahead.!

Catholic Character Corner…………………. This week in RE are looking at Charism-what gives our school it’s special character. The children will learn about Sister McAuley – an Irish nun who founded the Order of the Sisters of Mercy. She travelled from Australia to NZ and started several Catholic schools. In 1902 3 Sisters of Mercy nuns arrived in Waihi and St Joseph’s School was opened. Our school has 4 houses named after people who are part of our Catholic School history…Aquinas, Chanel, Pompellier and McAuley…more on this next week! Please let us know if you would like to join the staff next Thursday 16th February at 6 pm for the Commissioning Mass at St Thomas More Church at Mt Maunganui to celebrate the beginning of a new year.
