February 5th, 2017 Dear Parishioners, Honestly, I’ve been staring at a blank screen for the last 30 minutes, procrastinating, and not feeling very inspired to write anything. So, I’ll just tell you what’s been on my mind this past week. A few days ago I was planning on writing about some cash flow issues we were having at St. Ludger. Turns out, after doing some investigation, we’re okay. In fact, I discovered and am pleased to say that our Sunday collection has been up for the year. And even though the Christmas collection, Oktoberfest, and last year’s Parish Auction were WAY down, we’re still managing to stay on top of things. Well, we’re scraping by, but that’s better than drowning. Just wanted to say “thank you” and encourage you keep up the good work. A few weeks ago I had a meeting with our YDisciple adult leaders. We looked at the process of evangelization and asked where we thought some of our kids were at in the process. For clarification, here’s what the process looks like.

In general, many of us in the parish, teens and adults, are in the openness and initial proclamation phases of the process. Some of us are even very dedicated to being open, but ongoing formation, obedience, and missionary initiative alludes us. How can you tell where one is at? To be honest, it’s really between God and an individual, but I think the best way to describe it is to ask what our relationship with Christ is like. Many of us can say, “Yes, I have a personal relationship with Jesus.” But what is that relationship like? Is it a relationship of mere friendship, or is he a friend that challenges ? Is Jesus just a friend or is he also my teacher and am I his student? What we have been discovering is that it’s really hard for anyone to grow in discipleship if there hasn’t yet been an initial conversion. Initial conversion is more than a vague belief in God. Conversion, Pope John Paul II says, “means accepting, by a personal decision, the saving sovereignty of Christ and becoming his disciple.” It’s a conscious decision to follow, learn, and surrender to Jesus. That’s when you know you’ve passed the openness stage of evangelization to becoming his disciple. Fr. Lorig

Scholarship-The St. Ludger Parish Council of Catholic Women are offering a $500 scholarship to a Catholic Senior boy or girl of St. Ludger’s Church. Application forms have been sent to the guidance counselor of the high school. Please encourage your senior son or daughter to apply for this scholarship. Applications are due March 15th and can be mailed to Bev Mathine, 52829 Hwy 59, Creighton, NE 68729.



Dueling Pianos by Fun Pianos will be at St. Ludger Social hall on Saturday, March 18th. Show starts at 8pm. ONLY 5 TABLES REMAIN. Tickets: Table of 8 for $250, single tickets are $35. Collection of items for the Santee Community HOSA members will be collecting used or new balls, jump ropes & bicycles for the children of the Santee Community. Dr. Brandi Dimmitt will distribute them. Bring items to the public school between Feb 6-10. Any students or community members can bring items.

Lenten Fish Fries The parish will host fish fries on Friday, March 3rd, 10th, 24th and April 7th. We will be working on a schedule in the near future, please contact the office or sign up in the back of church if you have a preferred date that works for your family. The Baseball association will host the fish fry on Friday, March 17th and St. Ignatius will host the one on Friday, March 31st.
