Exemplary (10 Points) Lede is original and catchy; defines the rest of the story; invites readers into the story; shows originality; innovative use of delayed or novelty technique without being overdone. Evidence of reporter trying to get as many sources as necessary to adequately present all sides of the story; all sources identified and attributed; all information accurately and thoroughly represented; anecdotes are used to illustrate larger issues. Strong evidence of thorough research and interviewing by the effective use of storytelling quotes that cover a broad range of the topic; effective use of the quotetransition formula. Story is organized in an acceptable features format; clear transitions and logical connection which creates cohesion and unity; moves from specific to more broad and saves a “gold coin” for the ending. Focus of story is clear; nothing detracts from the primary focus; overall theme is connected to everything. Writing is strong and effective with a clear voice and a variety of sentence structures; piece is tightly written; original voice. NO errors in AP style (quotes, dates, numbers, money, percents, time, commas, etc….) Short grafs; quotes stand alone. Story is well edited and spell checked with NO errors, including names.
