Coming Soon Do you have a child getting ready for Kindergarten? Let us help you cruise them into kindergarten with our new preschool story time experience “Playing Kindergarten”! This story time will incorporate iPad technology and other kindergarten readiness tools to help children develop the skills they need to succeed in school.

Children’s Programs Costume Party October 31, 4 pm Dress up in your favorite costume and join us for some hauntingly fun activities.

Let’s Give Thanks! November 22, 4 pm Explore the science of dissolving candy and create a Thanksgiving craft for your table.

Winter Bingo December 15, 4 pm Warm your cold fingers with some games of Bingo!

Teen Programs Do you love the library? Are you a teen looking for volunteer hours? Then join our Teen Advisory Board! You’ll have the opportunity to plan programs for other teens, give feedback on our teen collection, and promote the library as a great place to be. Come see us during Art Walk, the third Thursday of every month, and join in on these activities! 11/17– Uke Jam Ever wanted to see someone play a ukulele or wanted to give it a try yourself? Stop by and give it a try and learn more about our ukulele lending program.

12/15– Let It Snow Come make a snowflake with us that you can take home to add to your winter decorations.

1/19– High Tea Missing Downton Abbey? Come have tea with us, just like the Crawleys.

Food For Fines From November 1st to December 3rd, the library will be letting you pay your fines with food.

Each nonperishable food item you bring will help to pay off your fine, and will then be donated to area food banks and the Huntingdon County Humane Society. Pay your fines and help out your community at the same time! For a list of items the banks want most or more information, see a member of staff at the desk.

Library Giving Tree Throughout the month of December, the library will have a giving tree in the lobby with book donation slips. Each slip contains a type of book that can be donated in honor or memory of someone this holiday season. Each book donated will have a bookplate with the name of the donor and the honoree. A letter will be sent to the honoree informing them of your generous gift. For more information or to fill out a gift form, see a member of staff at the desk.

The Staff Recommends Lew’s Review Robert Mitchum: Baby, I Don’t Care Saint Martin’s Press– New York, 2001

He moved and walked like a loping, magnificent big cat, a disinterested easy stride that, coupled with his rich, sonorous baritone and a heavy-lidded, immoral-appearing countenance, framed the fascinating, menacing mix that was Robert Mitchum. He was an actor, a poet, a writer, a singer, and the original bad boy of the silver screen. One can only imagine the scores of movie wanna-be bad boys who came later, down to the present, checking themselves in the mirror prior to an important scene , and asking themselves, “How would Mitchum have played it?”. Mitchum came out of a hard-scrabble background, and, as explored in Server’s thoroughly engaging biography, traveled a circuitous route from starting as one of the black hats in Hopalong Cassidy oaters and his days as a self-described “horsesh*t salesman” towards becoming one of the most respected and revered actors in the business. A master of self deprecation and black, ironic humor, Mitchum fostered the impression that he didn’t care about his chosen profession, but record has it that he was almost without exception on time and on the mark. Server’s book has it all. The films: Cape Fear; Night of the Hunter; El Dorado; Thunder Road; River of No Return; The Big Sleep and so much more. It unflinchingly explores Mitchum’s personal and movie escapades as well as his relationships with other actors and directors, and the studio and star system as it existed before it all went away. Mitchum’s brand of integrity and masculinity may seem dated today, but when it counted, no one wore it better. Highly Recommended.

The library will be closed December 23, 24 & 26 for Christmas and December 31 & January 2 for New Years. The library will be open 10am– 5pm December 27-30

Adult Programs and Trainings Stampin’ with Jackie Nov. 5th and Dec. 3rd @ 1 pm. Cost: $10 to make two cards Learn a variety of techniques to create beautiful cards with the latest tools, papers and embellishments from Stampin’ Up!
