NEWARK SANITARY DISTRICT The Sanitary District has been finalizing plans for our facility upgrade. We anticipate construction to begin around May 1, 2017 with final completion about the first of December 2017. This is primarily being accomplished through a grant from the State and Federal EPA’s as well as local fees. This should provide quality sanitary service for many years to come without any further expansion in the foreseeable future. That makes the assumption the State or Federal governments decide to change the rules, again.

Fern Dell Historic Association Activities: November 19th – Torsk dinner at Fire Station. Tickets must be purchased in advance Our president, Vic Stott, has just completed another “writing class” at the museum with 15 to 20 in attendance each week. Look for another class to be held in the spring. We recently had the overhead doors painted to enhance the appearance of the museum. Dates of the Winter Treasures Garage Sale and the Kumla Dinner and Silent Auction will be announced later. As always, Fern Dell will be involved in the Winter fest event. The Annual Meeting of Fern Dell was held on October 22nd with a very interesting program on identifying old instruments & small tools used on a farm in the home, doctors & dentist offices. Ask about becoming a member of Fern Dell Historic Association. We are also looking for people to volunteer at the museum during open hours and to work on various projects. Museum phone: 815-695-5240

NEWARK FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT The Newark Fire Department has had a relatively peaceful summer, but now going into Fall we need everyone to remember several things. Watch for Farm Equipment on our roads, as it’s getting dark much earlier some have trouble seeing these huge implements. Please be careful. And it’s still grass/field fire season, so please be careful if you decide to burn. It doesn’t take much for a nice, small fire to get blown into a fast moving giant of a blaze. We also want to remind everyone to be extremely careful when getting that first fire in your fireplace. Make sure it’s clean and the flu is open. We have taken delivery of our new engine and we’re still waiting to put it in service. We still have to load all kinds of equipment and tools on it, least of which is the hose. And if anyone wants to buy our old engine give us a call. The ambulance upgrade has been working extremely well and we have been able to provide Paramedic care several times without the need to wait for another department to show up with advanced care as we now can provide that care. We always can use additional EMT’s and Paramedics so if anyone is interested in helping us help the community, please give the station a call and we’ll get you started. It’s coming up time to change our clocks so remember to check/replace you smoke and CO detector batteries.

Friends of the Library News Libraries need Friends. Did you know that our public library was established through the efforts of community members who understood the value of libraries? Your public library is a gift from the community for the community, and is in need of a few good Friends. Every year, The Friends of the Charles B Phillips Public Library, expand the library resources to better serve the public. Through monetary gifts, volunteerism and program support, and most importantly, advocacy, The Friends of The Library are making a difference for the Charles B. Phillips Public Library, and our community. The Friends of the Library need your help! It is time for some fresh ideas from new friends. In the past we have had great success in our fundraising and volunteer efforts. The BBQ Dinner on the Fourth of July has always been the primary fundraiser for the Friends, and a great success. The Friends also provide volunteers for the Library’s community events, such as Breakfast with the Bunny in the spring, and the Winter Walk in December. The Friends have given monetary support to the library over the years for library materials, fixtures, and equipment, as well as to expand technology, and membership. Now it is time to hear ideas from you. Please contact our President, Rita Smith (815-695-5422), or ask one of the library staff, to learn more about membership. For just $10.00 dues annually, you can become an active supporter of one of our community’s most valuable resources; The Charles B. Phillips Public Library. The friends meet just five times per year, and always try to provide a little fun following our business meetings, this year we have scheduled a game night, informative programs, and enjoyed a dinner with Friends. Friend your library today; without support from members like you, our library cannot continue to move forward and grow.

Newark Lutheran Church Minute We are very thankful and grateful for such a wonderful community that we live in, and we look forward to enjoying the continued unity and fellowship that surrounds us all. 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. ~ Revelation 3:20 This Bible verse is one of the most inspiring parts of scripture that shows us prayer. I was given a book by my one of my mentors, teacher and friend. It is a small book by O. Hallesby titled “PRAYER” and it changed my life. “To pray is to let Jesus come into our hearts. This teaches us, in the first place, that it is not our prayer which moves the Lord Jesus. It is Jesus who moves us to pray. He knocks. Thereby He makes known His desire to come in to us. Our prayers are always a result of Jesus’ knocking at our hearts’ doors.” Jesus knocks at the door of our heart because He want to save, protect and have fellowship with us. He is patient and persistent in trying to get through to us, not breaking and entering, but knocking. Jesus Loves You and wants to talk and have a relationship with you…Praise Be To GOD!!! Sunday Mornings we Meet and Greet for coffee and donuts at 8:45 followed by worship at 9:30 with Sunday school for all ages at 10:45. Come and visit, I am very sure that you will find a very loving, caring and friendly family of God. For more information visit WWW.NEWARKLCAFLC.ORG or find us on Face Book. Blessings and Praise Be To GOD!!! Pastor Luke
