Journalism with a difference! Are there things in this world that you want to change? Have you ever noticed that you’re one step ahead of fashion trends? This is your chance to enlighten the world, or at least Teign School! You could be a part of a magazine press team where you will be writing articles, recording webcasts, acting as the paparazzi, shooting images, Interviewing and editing. The printing press will be under your full control and the ethos of the magazine is “News FOR Students BY Students”. From the name of the magazine, to the content…..it’s all in your hands. It's also a chance to see what else is going on during Enrichment Week and interview/ take photos of other activities.

BOARD GAMES

Activities will include indoor board games such as monopoly, ludo / frustration, guess who, snakes and ladders, draughts, chess, jenga, dominoes and a variety of card games.

Indoor skittles and balancing bricks competition are all added attractions. Some mini outdoor games such as Frisbee, bowls, throw and catch games are also available. COST: FREE

SPORTS, SPORTS & MORE SPORTS!

If you enjoy taking part in lots of different sporting activities then this is for you! Using the excellent facilities on offer at Teign Sports Centre and using expert coaches and instructors from many of our local community clubs, participants will have the opportunity to do some or all of the following activities subject to their personal interests;  Indoor Football  Trampolining  Fitness training in the fitness suite  Fencing  Indoor Tag rugby  Table Tennis  Kabadi  TaeKwon-Do  Volleyball/Seated Volleyball  Badminton  Swimming (recreational)  Cricket  Basketball Other activities may also be offered, with students being able to decide what these will be once they have selected this activity. Many activities will be run by coaches and instructors and will use top quality equipment. A brilliant week of sport for all levels of ability! COST: FREE

WICKED WOODWORK

Do you love hand on activities and making things from scratch? If you choose Wicked Woodwork, you will design and make a personalised wooden organiser box or jewellery box using hand tools, machine tools, and computer aided manufacturing. There will also be the opportunity to design and make 3D Print a product! COST: £15

CRAFTY KIDS

Do you like designing, sewing, working with fabrics, paper, ribbons and bows? This activity gives you a chance to develop new skills and work with a range of textiles on a number of different projects. You will create some lovely homemade toys or accessories to take home as a treat for yourself or a gift for someone special. All equipment will be provided. COST: £20

ART WORKSHOPS

PROJECT CRAFT

Calling all art lovers! Using your design skills you will create jewellery & craft items using a range of materials and techniques from key rings to surf bracelets, book marks to sun catchers. Two days will be spent visiting local workshops where we can observe various artisans at work including jewellery making, glass blowing and chocolate making. You will have a go at painting pottery and see how hand-made items are marketed and sold at Totnes market. COST: £20

If you enjoy all aspects of art and would like to develop your skills then this is the activity for you. You will have the use of the art rooms to take part in activities such as:

FOOTBALL ACADEMY

POTTERY WORKSHOP

Do you enjoy clay work, making sculptures, or fancy having a go on the potter’s wheel? We will be based in the art room K7. Come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and discover your creative side!

Eventually you will be able to take your master pieces home, though this will be when the items have been kiln fired.

Love football? If so, this is the activity for you! Whether you support Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool or Torquay! All abilities welcome, come and join us for the week. This activity is for both girls and boys, and will include visits from Torquay United Youth Academy. COST: £30

SAVE A LIFE EMERGENCY FIRST AID COURSE QUALIFICATION

If you are a fan of singing along with your favourite musical drama, pop group, or just enjoy singing with a group of your friends this could be the activity for you! You will design and produce your own CD single of your group, including a session at a local recording studio to record your best track. It may be that you just want to make a CD as a gift for someone special, or explore if you should apply for the X Factor next year! COST: £40

Gain a Nationally recognised First Aid qualification by taking part in this practical based course, led by a qualified First Aid Trainer. Two days will focus on learning and practicing emergency First Aid skills and procedures, with the other two days featuring “mock” emergency scenarios in outdoor settings at Moretonhampsted and Dawlish Warren. All transport, training, First Aid manuals and exam fees are part of this fantastic opportunity to learn how to save other’s lives, as well as being a great addition to your Record of Achievement!

UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT

DEVON ACTION ADVENTURE

Do you like Drama, Dance, Singing and Theatre? If you do then this activity is for you!

Do you enjoy going on an adventure? Do you want to spend some time visiting exciting local tourist attractions?

Day 1 – Musical Theatre Day – Learn Songs and Dances from classic musicals. Day 2 – Cinema Trip – An off-site trip to a local cinema to watch a classic piece of Musical Theatre. Day 3 – TR2 & Street Dance – On this day we will visit the Theatre Royal 2 for a behind the scenes tour and a Street Dance workshop. Day 4 – Theatrical Make-Up – Experiment with character make up. Create the look of ageing, broken noses, bruises, etc. Workshops will be run by highly skilled, specialist professionals to create a special and memorable week.

Enjoy an exhilarating four days visiting some of Devon’s top attractions. This activity will include day trips to Woodlands, Paignton Zoo and Crealy Park (Exeter). To end the week we will take a trip to Quay West and follow that with a relaxing lunch of fish and chips on the beach. What a great way to start the summer! COST: £80

ANIMAL MADNESS

Are you crazy about animals? If so, this week is for you. You will have an opportunity to go wild at Exmoor Zoo, cuddle small furry friends at Prickly Ball Farm, meet the llamas and farm animals at Exmouth’s World of Country Life, and visit all the continents of the world at Paignton Zoo. Along the way you’ll find out about animals of all shapes and sizes, their feeding habits and natural habitats. We’ll even go on safari and feed llamas from our hands.

FANTASTIC FARMING

Experience the outdoor life with this fantastic activity! We will spend 2 days at Bicton College, including one overnight stay, where we will work with some of the animals and machinery that they have to offer. Accommodation is in the form of individual rooms with full board. In addition we will visit and help out on a local farm, as well as our own school farm. On the final day we will celebrate with an amazing BBQ. This activity is practical in nature so willingness to get stuck in and work hard will be important!

SEA ANGLING

A chance to develop your golfing skills or to start a new sport. You will be given expert advice and tuition by a Golf Professional. This activity is suitable for all levels of golfer, from beginners to club members. All students will spend time having tuition in the practice areas as well as getting out on to the course to put in to practice what they have been working on.

Learn one of the most relaxing, enjoyable and accessible sports available in the UK. Learn how to fish in some of South Devon’s most prized spots. All the bait and equipment will be provided and throughout the day an expert coach will be on hand to help you set up and pass on some great tips (to help you catch that “whopper”). You may even want to take your catch home for tea!

SKATEPARK SESSIONS WINTER OLYMPICS BMX, SKATE, BLADE or SCOOTER AT THE BEST INDOOR SKATEPARKS IN THE SOUTH WEST. 4 day trips to include:

Careering down the slopes, the speed, the exhilaration, the wind rushing through your hair, the glare of the slopes reflecting in your sunglasses …….. only in the Alps? No!! The Winter Olympics can offer you this unique experience in Plymouth. You will have the opportunity to take part in Skiing, Snowboarding and Sno-tubing, from beginners to expert level. CAMPCRAFT ADVENTURE!

We will spend three nights and four days camping close to the river on the stunning Raleigh Estate on the River Dart, with a private creek, river frontage and acres of fields and woodland (find out more about the estate at www.raleighestate.co.uk). This venue also provides us with a sheltered secluded campsite and the perfect location for our Campcraft including shelter building, foraging, cooking wild food, survival and tree top adventures. Amazing! This is also wonderful opportunity to explore the Dart estuary between Dittisham and Dartmouth. The trip involves travelling on the river in Canadian canoes and hiking on footpaths and woodland trails. We provide all food and drink on this trip except lunch on day one and on day 4. Two teachers from Teign School and the residential provider staff are in attendance throughout the duration of the trip.

IT’S TIME TO SURF!

Ever fancied surfing? Or perhaps you are already a pro-rider! Do you love the sun, sand and salty air? Then this activity is definitely for you! We will spend each day at Bigbury learning to surf as well as basic sea safety awareness with the first class professional instructors of Discovery Surf School. The surf school have a water roller and a giant surf board so there is never a dull moment whether surfing in a team or individually. COST: £140

MOUNTAIN BIKING MAYHEM

Four days aimed at improving your off road bike skills at various venues such as Haldon Forest, Dartmoor, Woodbury Common and the Quantock Hills. Price includes use of mountain bikes, helmets, pads and gloves and expert tuition from a trained OTC technical trail leader. You must be confident riding on terrain similar to the red run at Haldon Forest to choose this option as it will be on challenging off road trails. COST: £150

EQUESTRIAN EXPERIENCE

Horse riding and related activities from a local stable with professional instructors. Previous experience is not essential as activities will reflect the experience of different students. You will learn how to care for a horse and take part in riding both in the grounds of the stables and further afield, for example a ride around Haldon Forest. COST: £155

WET N’ WILD WATERSPORTS!

An amazing opportunity to try a variety of different watersports across the week based in sunny (hopefully) Exmouth. Day 1 – we will spend one day windsurfing the sheltered waters of the Exe Estuary Day 2 – we will then spend a day learning how to kayak and have fun in the waves at Orcombe Point Day 3- The next day we will go to the same place but this time we will have to keep our balance on paddleboards as we try another new watersport Day 4 – We will put all our skills together to do a paddle board safari from Sandy Bay to Orcombe Point and back.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Join us for an action packed activity in the countryside. Team challenges, assault course, raft building, rifle shooting, bush craft with survival training, orienteering, and archery. There will even be some gorge walking on Dartmoor. Zip wires and a tree top rope course may also be available. We will be returning to school each day at around 4.30pm to allow for a full day’s worth of activity. COST: £160

LONDON LIFE

SURFING IN SENNEN

Enjoy the beauty of Sennen Beach at the very tip of West Cornwall, just up from Land’s End. During our stay we shall be camping at Trevedra Farm campsite. Throughout the week you will receive six hours of surf lessons from professional surf instructors (Smart Surf) every day! When we are not surfing, we will be enjoying days on the beach and barbecues in the evening. COST: £185

Join us for an exciting trip to London next July. We start off with a visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, then head into Central London to our hostel. We will travel by private coach each day to see the sights, ride the London Eye, marvel at the creatures at London Zoo, take a cruise down the Thames and see two top West End shows. In addition to this we will visit a museum or two, have some great meals and there may even be time for a little shopping, possibly even extra activities if we can fit them in! On the way home we will visit Hampton Court Palace and try to not get lost in the Maze. This all adds up to a brilliantly busy, fun filled few days.
