Dear learner, Assignments carry 20% weightage in the continuous evaluation process of a course. The term-end examinations carry 80% weightage. The assignments will be evaluated by the Counsellors at the study centre and the respective weightage of marks will be added to their percentage of marks obtained at the term-end examination. Each candidate will have to complete assignments in order to appear in the term-end examination. Candidates are, therefore, advised to take assignments seriously and submit them in time. General Instructions 1)

The validity of the assignments is SIX MONHTS. If you fail to submit the assignments before the due date of the particular session, you are supposed to attempt the fresh set of assignment of subsequent January sessions.

Write your Enrolment Number, Name, Full Address and Date of Despatch at the top right-hand corner of the first page of your answer sheet.

Write the Programme Title, Course Title, Assignment Code, Code and Place of the Study Centre on the left- hand corner of the first page of your answer sheet.

Your answer sheet should be complete in all respects. Make sure that you have answered to all the questions in assignments before you submit them. Incomplete answer sheets will lead to poor marks. 5) As far as possible students are advised to give the relevant points from the course material and elaborate their answers and explanations in their own language instead of reproducing the language of the course materials. 6) You are advised not to copy from the study material while attempting the assignments. In case it is found that the assignments have been copied from study material, you will be awarded zero marks. 7) Avoid copying from the answer sheets of other students. If copying is noticed, the assignments of such students will be rejected. 8) Use only foolscap size paper for your answers, ordinary writing paper, neither too thick nor too thin, will do. Assignments should be hand written, typed assignment are not acceptable. 9) Leave 3”margin on the left and at least 4 lines in between each answer in an assignment. This will enable your Counsellor to write useful comments in appropriate places. Write question number for each answer. 10) The coordinator of your Study Centre will return the evaluated assignments to you. This will also include a copy of assessment sheet containing global comments of the evaluator on your performance in the assignments. This will enable you to improve in your future assignments as well as in the term- end examinations. 11) The Assignments should be sent or submitted to the Programme In-charge of the Study Centre allotted to you.

1. Define the following in one or two lines: a. Age at sexual maturity b. Breed c. Dressing percentage d. Litter e. Trap Nest 2. Identify different types of poultry farms. What are the advantages of rearing duck? 3. Discuss about the rearing programme of the breeder flock. 4. Identify the factors influencing the egg production. 5. Describe the different institutions involved in the poultry development. 6. Give the common characteristics of American Class Chicken. 7. Differentiate between Khaki Campbell and Muscovy breeds of duck. 8. Describe the female reproductive system of hen with the help of a diagram. 9. Describe the different methods of mating commonly practiced in poultry. 10. Differentiate between good layer and poor or bad layer.

OLPI-001: POULTRY HOUSING AND MANAGEMENT Maximum Marks: 50 Answer all questions. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Draw labelled cross-section diagram of a broiler house and a layer house. 2. Differentiate between extensive and intensive system of rearing poultry. 3. Describe the cage system of rearing poultry. What are its advantages and disadvantages? 4. Identify any 10 equipments used in a poultry farm (Both broiler and layer) and give any one use for each equipment. 5. Differentiate between a setter and a hatcher. Give the requirements for setter and hatcher. 6. Write short notes on the following: a. Preparation of brooder house before the arrival of chicks b. Precautions during beak trimming 7. Justify in your own words the need for providing supplementary feeding, watering and night shelter to birds reared in backyard farming system. 8. Give the space and nutrient requirements of Guinea Fowl.

9. Define the following: a. Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) b. Vertical Integration c. Feed Efficiency per dozen eggs d. Technical Records e. Capital 10. What is grading or sorting of eggs? Discuss about the different grades of table eggs.

1. Give five examples each for the following types of feedstuffs: a. Common energy sources b. Unconventional energy sources c. Common animal protein sources d. Unconventional vegetable protein sources e. Common vegetable protein sources 2. Give the composition of mineral mixture for broiler and layer diets. 3. Describe the deficiency symptoms for the following: a. Calcium deficiency in layers b. Manganese deficiency in chicks c. Zinc deficiency in layers d. Vitamin E deficiency in chicks e. Vitamin B2 deficiency in chicks 4. Differentiate between Pre-biotics and Pro-biotics. 5. Define mycotoxin. What are the different mycotoxins affecting poultry? Describe any one in detail. 6. Tabulate the energy, protein, minerals and vitamin requirements for different phases of broiler and layer Chicken as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). 7. Using Pearson Square method, prepare a feed mixture containing 20% Crude Protein (CP) by mixing Solvent extracted Sesame Cake (CP=40%) and Wheat Bran (CP=15%)? 8. Describe the different forms of feed available in the market for poultry. 9. What are the factors influencing the feed quality? 10.
