What is the endowment fund?

Whom will this benefit?

The CMS Endowment Fund is the creation of a portfolio that would function much like those in place at many Ivy League institutions. The fund is cultivated through donations from alumni, parents, and anyone else who wishes to contribute to the school. Based upon the principles used by Ivy League institutions growth through diversification of assets - the fund would slowly but steadily grow over time, allowing the money to be available for the school to use on a variety of projects.

The endowment will give families that they would not normally be able to afford CMS the opportunity to give their children a Montessori experience. It would also benefit current and future students by allowing for the replacement of old or damaged materials.

What will the money be used for? The money would primarily be used to assist students entering the elementary program who could not normally afford it with financial aid. Other uses for the money would be: • New classroom materials, • New outdoor equipment, • Expansion of the school, • Other needs identified to improve the student experience.

Contribution methods The main ways to contribute to the fund would be: • Direct donation at a school sponsored event with cash, credit or check. • Through mail via check sent directly to the school. • Bequest

The basic investment policy is to achieve a high level of security and growth through diversification. There are five major asset classes, US stocks, US bonds, foreign stocks, real estate, and commodities, that are each allocated roughly 20% of the total money in the portfolio. This essentially means that the methodology is to provide the best possible longterm performance while simultaneously diversifying the portfolio to reduce risk and capitalizing on major gains in one or more areas of the portfolio.
