EMPLOYEE​ ​CONSULTING​ ​ACTIVITIES Background The​ ​district​ ​may​ ​approve​ ​the​ ​release​ ​of​ ​employees​ ​from​ ​their​ ​regular​ ​roles,​ ​duties​ ​and responsibilities,​ ​who,​ ​because​ ​of​ ​some​ ​exceptional​ ​knowledge​ ​or​ ​expertise,​ ​are​ ​requested​ ​to​ ​act as​ ​a​ ​speaker​ ​or​ ​consultant​ ​outside​ ​of​ ​the​ ​district. Procedures 1. Employee​ ​consulting​ ​activities​ ​must​ ​be​ ​compatible​ ​with​ ​the​ ​philosophy​ ​and​ ​procedures​ ​of the​ ​district. 2. The​ ​superintendent,​ ​human​ ​resources​ ​may​ ​approve​ ​limited​ ​leaves​ ​of​ ​absence​ ​without​ ​pay for​ ​this​ ​purpose​ ​of​ ​up​ ​to​ ​a​ ​maximum​ ​of​ ​three​ ​(3)​ ​days​ ​per​ ​school​ ​year​ ​per​ ​employee.​ ​These activities​ ​must​ ​be​ ​at​ ​no​ ​cost​ ​to​ ​the​ ​district​ ​and​ ​must​ ​not​ ​interfere​ ​with​ ​the​ ​employee’s​ ​regular duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities. 3. Request​ ​for​ ​leaves​ ​for​ ​this​ ​purpose​ ​must​ ​be​ ​forwarded​ ​to​ ​the​ ​superintendent,​ ​human resources​ ​at​ ​least​ ​six​ ​(6)​ ​weeks​ ​prior​ ​to​ ​the​ ​requested​ ​release​ ​date​ ​and​ ​must​ ​include​ ​all relevant​ ​details​ ​regarding​ ​the​ ​request.​ ​The​ ​request​ ​must​ ​be​ ​accompanied​ ​by​ ​a​ ​letter​ ​of support​ ​from​ ​the​ ​employee’s​ ​immediate​ ​supervisor​ ​or​ ​principal. 4. The​ ​district​ ​must​ ​be​ ​informed​ ​if​ ​the​ ​employee​ ​is​ ​to​ ​receive​ ​additional​ ​compensation​ ​or benefits​ ​for​ ​their​ ​services,​ ​other​ ​than​ ​the​ ​cost​ ​of​ ​expenses/substitutes.
