Chemistry Department, Tarbiat Modares University, P.O. Box 14115-175, Tehran, Iran b Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences, Faculty of Chemistry, Zanjan, Iran [email protected], [email protected] (M. F. Mousavi) CuO nanoparticles have been considered as an important material because of its variety applications in many fields, such as catalyst, cathode materials in lithium batteries, field-emission emitter, magnetic storage media, fabrication of solar cell, electrical and optical, photovoltaic devices [1-3]. To date, on the basis of the practical importance of CuO nanomaterials, well-defined CuO nanostructures with various morphologies have been fabricated [4]. Because the properties of nanostructures are heavily influenced by their shape and dimensional constrain, the new ways for synthesis of these materials are still interested. Additionally the synthesis of CuO compound, especially those with 1-D structure including nanowires, nanorods and nanotubes, could enhance its intrinsic characteristics for use in existing applications and lead to finding new applications for them [4]. In continuation to our previous studies [5], in this work, a simple liquid- solid growth process was used for synthesis of CuO NWs. Copper nitrate, sodium hypophosphite, and diethanolamine were used for this synthesis. The mixture was heated in autoclave at 140 °C for 12 h. The synthesized CuO nanostructures were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Polymeric membrane film, Nafion, was used to prepare a thin film of CuO immobilized onto the surface. Our investigations revealed that Cytochrome-c, Cyt-c, can be adsorbed onto the CuO nanoparticle surfaces, then the Cyt-c/CuO nanoprticles modified GC electrode may be considered as biosensing scaffold of some of the important reactions. In the present study, the Cyt-c/CuO nanoparticle-GC electrode was used to examine the electrocatalytic reduction pathway, EC’, of H2O2. Finally, good reproducibility and LOD as low as 1 μM for H2O2 determination were found for the new biosensor. References: [1] L. Rout, T. K. Sen, T. Punniyamurthy, Angew. Chem. 119 (2007) 5679.
