Setup your Eclipse for Web Development Abstract: Currently I am using the following version of Eclipse:

Now I want to set up the whole Eclipse environment in such a way that anyone can easily and directly put their hands on Web based application development by JSP and/or Servlet technology. Moreover, during this tutorial writing, my intention will be such that not only a novice developer will know how to deal with this Java based technology, rather each and every one of them will clearly see and realize what is going on in a big picture. Out there over internet, I know it is really frustrating for the beginners to search for documents here and there just to understand what are JSP and SERVLET, and how they are related to web development and how to start coding. But now they will find a full documentation with all those issues which will for sure motivates them from the day one. So then let’s start our discussion  Introduction: Before we start setting up our Eclipse for Java based web app. technology why not going through some of the questions first which you may have in your mind right now. And if you find those questions are truly present then there you go. This tutorial is for you then… General questions are: a) What are JSP and Servlet? Are they same or can I use just one of them? How are they working actually? Do I need to use any framework (IDE) to develop those Apps? b) I have Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers. Can I use that for web based application development? c) The file structure is really confusing as a whole. Can I get any help to understand how each element is playing their own role and communicating each other? d) How can I ensure that my Eclipse is fully set to start developing any application based on JSP and Servlet? e) I want to develop application which will deal with Database (let’s have an example: MySQL). Can I easily set that environment up with eclipse? Are there any good Plug-in available for that?

First of all, what do you think about JSP and Servlet? If you read my first tutorial on JSP then you may answer JSP is a server side scripting language. And in general term we can say that a server side scripting language is a language which helps us to communicate and do some tasks on/over web container so called web server (Here our example will be Apache Tomcat). Look, I will not be going through any bookish term or definition and I won’t be following as well. So don’t try to find my fault in those sectors  Remember that here our main intention is to understand those silly stupid stuff so good that after this tutorial we will never look back and think again what are those. Rather in upcoming days we will be using our head to develop many sophisticated web apps. right? So take these general ideas, build your confidence and then dig into those books to know much more.
