Dunedin Getaway Ride Recap

Day 1: December 8, 2015. Drive from The Villages to the Yacht Harbor Inn in Dunedin. Then we road our bikes on the Pinellas Trail to Tarpon Spring for lunch. The Pinellas Trail has many posts to prevent cars from driving on the bike trail. There were two separate accidents where two of our riders hit a post with their bikes and went down; fortunately there were no serious injuries. On the return trip from Tarpon Springs to Dunedin, many riders rode the causeway to Honeymoon Island with a strong crosswind. That evening most had dinner at Bon Appetit restaurant at the Yacht Harbor Inn. The typical bike mileage for the day was 32 miles. Day2: We rode south on the Pinellas Trial. Most riders left the trail in Clearwater and rode across the high bridge to Clearwater Beach. Then we headed south crossing a second bridge to Sand Key. We followed the coast to John’s Pass which is a tourist attraction with many shops and restaurants. John’s Pass is a water passage between the Gulf of Mexico and the Inland Waterway. After lunch we rode northeast to pick up the Pinellas Trail and then back to Dunedin. The typical mileage for the day was 39 to 40 miles. Most of us ate dinner at a Mexican Restaurant and had a good time. Day 3: Everyone was on their own. Many headed back to The Villages while others stayed in the area for additional cycling, etc.
