DRAFT St. Paul Lutheran Church Voter's Meeting August 25, 2013 Present: Jan & Larry Kleino, Dorothy Doherty, Carl & Marian Zuellig, Eugene Morris, Dennis Quast, Phil & Joan Stout, Vic & Joan Turnipseed, Troy Jenkins, Jim & Cheryl Gaylock, Cynthia Migliore, Doris & Bill Lutteke, Beckie Cook, Lynda & Larry Cook, Ruth Blow, Joann Homberg, Fred & Bettie Sterner, Don & Fran Brown, Peggy Hansen, Gary & Patti Ritthaler Meeting called to order by Phil at 11:17. Welcomed new member Troy Jenkins. Pastor opened with devotion from Luke 13. Minutes were approved with no corrections. Treasurer's Report: Patti Ritthaler. See attached. Explained that Debit fund was $300 payments on our loan (for the roof) to pay off $3600 for each year. Total revenues are short about $1000. Patti made a motion to raise the insurance budget line item by $550 to cover rising insurance costs. Fred Sterner seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Mileage reimbursement is up a bit because of guest organists traveling from Petoskey and Boyne City. Bill Lutteke made a motion to accept Treasurer's Report. Joan Stout seconded. Motion carried. Elder's Report: Gary Ritthaler. Elders approved supervision by Pastor of Deacon Jack Mosher while he serves vacancy at St. Matthew, Mancelona. Pastor gave background info and requested voter approval since this is not part of his call here at St. Paul. St. Paul will have no financial obligation except for reimbursement of mileage to Pastor for Deacon conferences. St. Matthew will be responsible for Deacon's salary. Lynda Cook made a motion to approve the supervision by Pastor of Deacon Jack Mosher while he serves vacancy the at St. Matthew, Mancelona. Cheryl Gaylock seconded. Motion carried. Trustee's Report: Pastor gave background of Christ Lutheran in Boyne City giving the congregation $7000 out of a sizeable donation they received. The Council had recommended putting the $7000 towards making the sanctuary handicap-accessible. The trustees have had two meetings and their recommendation is to raise the floor since new flooring is needed. This would make the sanctuary accessible for everyone. Lynda Cook made a motion to authorize the Trustees to further investigate raising the floor to make the sanctuary accessible for everyone. Peggy Hansen seconded. Motion carried with one abstention. Trustees are investigating other options for insurance due to the poor customer service we have received including but not limited to unreturned phone calls, no-show meetings, and rising prices. Pastor is meeting with another agent this week. Laurie Nauman and Emily Coughlin have been handling the custodial duties up until this past week. As of last week, Laurie will be handling all the custodial duties for the church. Pastor requested that any custodial issues or concerns be taken to the trustee of the month or Pastor who then can address the issue with Laurie. Ladies Guild: Jan Kleino. Need donations or money for hamburgers, hot dogs, and buns for picnic on Sept. 8. Sept. 28 and Oct. 12 are Pasty Days. Pasties will sell for $4.50. LWML – No report Lydia Circle: Peggy Hansen. Planning on buying two handicap toilets but questioned if they should wait until more information is gathered from Trustees regarding floor and making bathrooms handicap-accessible. Altar Guild – Last meeting discussed introduction of Chalice. Dedication and usage will begin next month. Board of Education – New members class (Faith of the Lutheran Church) has been taking place over the summer. We are anticipating three new members. Junior Confirmation class will begin again on September 15.
Preschool – new fire door needs to be installed before preschool starts up again on Sept. 3. We have seven students currently enrolled with the possibility of 3-4 more. VBS went smoothly with a good turnout of volunteers and students. $663.84 was raised for Project: Clean Water, an organization through LCMS Human Care & World Relief that provides clean drinking water for impoverished countries. Ruth Blow seconded. Motion carried. Pastor has written a funeral policy with a checklist and information to help families plan. Pastor has been doing a service at Kalkaska Assisted Living every other Sunday at 1:00 p.m. A Baptist minister does a service on the alternating Sundays. Pastor will be a guest on KFUO's Faith and Family on Wednesday talking about the faith and the movies. The topic will be Superman. Gary Ritthaler made a motion to adjourn. Jim Gaylock seconded.
