DRAFT Proposed Redistricting Grandfathering Guidelines HEIGHTS Billings Public Schools February 4, 2016 The following guidelines apply only to those students for whom the redistricting would require a change of schools starting in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. These guidelines include students of outlying districts and special needs students. Students other than those listed below will attend schools in their updated attendance area, and the guidelines below are designed to sunset upon completion of the redistricting process.

2016-2017 1. Students entering 5th grade (Class of 2024) will be given the option to remain in their current elementary school, space permitting. Should students choose this option, parents will be responsible for the transportation of their children to and from school. Upon entering middle school, they will be required to enroll in the school in their new attendance area. 2. Students entering 6th grade (Class of 2023) will attend their newly-zoned middle school. 3. Students entering 7th grade (Class of 2022) will attend their newly-zoned middle school. 4. Students entering 8th grade (Class of 2021) will be given the option to remain in their current school only upon applying for a waiver. All parents must fill out the attached form for planning purposes, no later than April 15, 2016. Such waivers will be provided for extenuating circumstances, on a case-by-case basis. Should students choose and be granted this option, parents will be responsible for the transportation of their children to and from school. Upon entering high school, they will be required to enroll in the school in their new attendance area.

2017-2018 5. All students who have already been attending a high school (Classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020) will be given the option to remain at their current high school through their graduation. Should students choose this option, parents will be responsible for transportation of their children to and from school.
