February19, 2013 Dear Parents & Guardians, Nearly two months ago, the nation mourned for the Sandy Hook Elementary School community. Sadly, it wasn’t the first school tragedy. The notion that a schoolhouse is a place of sanctuary and immune from any ill-intent is no longer a reality. Consequently, changes to current school security operations will be needed. Efforts are underway, at both the federal and state levels, to directly address this issue. With flaat being said, Prince George’s County Public Schools will be implementing strategies to ensure emergency preparedness for schools, qqae first event will be a systemic lockdown drill on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. The goal of this first drill is to build everyone’s capacity for implementation. Just as with fire drills, lockdown drills are a way to ensure that if an emergency does occur, all are ~vellprepared and knowledgeable of their role in the process.
