Media Release 27 June 2012 Yorke Peninsula tourism accolades! Yorke Peninsula tourism operators were recognised at the 2012 Yorke Peninsula Tourism Awards held at Ardrossan on Wednesday night. 150 people from South Australia’s tourism industry attended the gala dinner and presentations to celebrate the wins and successes of the tourism industry, where 10 awards were presented to businesses and individuals judged to be the most outstanding in each category (full list attached). A further 21 entrants who achieved a high standard in their category were recognised with a gold, silver or bronze medal. Peter Tucker won the prestigious Harry Dowling Award for an Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to the South Australian regional tourism industry. Peter’s passion and commitment to regional tourism spans 25 years and he is a respected leader in the houseboat and regional tourism industry. He contributes significant personal time and is an active and invaluable member of a number of organisations at both regional and state level. He works for the benefit of all industry and is truly an outstanding individual and very worthy recipient of the prestigious Harry Dowling Award. Yorke Peninsula Regional Tourism Manager Jo Barrie says “The standard of entries was extremely high, which underlines the commitment our operators have towards this important industry and I congratulate them all.” “Tourism is big business in South Australia and is a major economic generator for Yorke Peninsula, helping to create investment opportunities and most importantly jobs.” South Australian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Ward Tilbrook says it has been inspiring to see the commitment that tourism businesses have given to reviewing their goals and achievements through the awards process and showcasing their success to the industry. “The Tourism Industry Council aims to present the South Australian tourism industry as professional and high quality, and we have seen some of the Yorke Peninsula’s finest tourism businesses rewarded for excellence,” Mr Tilbrook says. Mr Tilbrook added “Tourism Awards reinforce the important contribution of regional tourism to South Australia and we should all celebrate excellence in our tourism experiences and the Yorke Peninsula as a

tourism destination.” “Yorke Peninsula operators celebrated success at the 2011 South Australian Tourism Awards, with a record 3 operators winning in their category and going on to represent South Australia at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Cairns earlier this year.
