Stage 1: Desired Results Course Description and Purpose (from selection guide):
This one semester course focuses on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Students will practice formation, analysis and reconstruction of terms, including spelling, definition and pronunciation. Organized according to body systems, terms related to anatomy, diseases and disorders, as well as surgical and diagnostic terms will be explored. This course is articulated with the state-‐wide technical college medical terminology course. Students completing the course with a grade of B earn 3 transcripted credits from the Milwaukee Area Technical College.
Enduring Understanding(s):
Medicine has a language of its own with a vocabulary built from Greek and Latin word parts, eponyms, acronyms and terms from modern language.
Essential Questions:
How can medical terms be built/translated from Greek and Latin prefixes, roots and suffixes?

For each of the systems and topics listed* be able to: 1. Define the anatomical terms. 2. Define and spell related word parts. 3. Build, analyze, define, pronounce and spell disease and disorder terms that are built from word parts. 4. Build, analyze, define, pronounce and spell the surgical terms that are built from word parts. 5. Build, analyze, define, pronounce and spell complementary terms that are built from word parts. 6. Cumulative test grades throughout the semester will count as 80% of the grade and the semester exam counts as 20%.

Repeated tardies will result in detention to be served at the convenience of Mrs. TenPas. • You must have your textbook for class every day. Also bring your flashcards and a pen or pencil. • Be polite and respectful to all. • Only water may be consumed in the classroom and should be kept on the floor by your chair. • Turn off your cell phone. WHS Cell Phone Policy will be enforced. Absences • Take your textbook home with you everyday. Exercises and expectations for each chapter are posted on my website. If you are absent you can continue the chapter work at home. If you need to reschedule a test, you must see me and do it as soon as possible.
