Week 6 Term 1: Wednesday March 7th 2018
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE EOTC- STEWART ISLAND CAMP This Sunday, after 9am mass, our year 7 & 8 students and adults ,head off to Stewart Island for a week of learning. This is a unique experience to stay in a National park and learn from the locals about the environment and its flora and fauna as well as learn about their own relationships with each other and what it means to be part of this special room 6 class. The group will begin their journey by staying at Bluff marae Sunday evening. They have been working with MaryAnne Tamati to ensure they have the correct protocols learnt for entering and staying at the marae. All students have been practising their mihimihi’s to introduce themselves to the marare community. We wish them well and know they will treasure the memories this trip creates. EASTER MONDAY & TUESDAY- April 2nd & 3rd Just a reminder that Easter Monday and Tuesday are both school holidays and the school is closed. Plan a great Easter break!!!!
HEALTH AND WELLBEING POSITIVE EMOTIONS ( peace, gratitude, inspiration, hope, curiosity) Practical strategies for positive emotions As a follow on from our worry piece last week. Perhaps try these with your children or yourselves. • Reflect on and track the good things that happen- ask- why did it happen? why did it feel good? • Share the good stuff with others- school, family, friends • Acts of kindness are contagious! - being kind to others increases our own levels of wellbeing.

SPECIAL CHARACTER Third Week of Lent - 40 Days of Constant Reminding We are reminded to be still, to make space for our God. That means loosening our control and being open to what needs to come into our lives. What a huge challenge. It requires of us a deeper level of trust in Life in an age of increasing fear. The season of Lent reminds us to focus on what is essential to every day of life and we need 40 days of constant reminding! It is a matter of priorities - a few minutes, a few moments to attend to essentials not as chore but time to be cherished. © 2003 Noel Davis and Emmaus Productions ALTAR SERVERS Our Special Character leaders will be asking year 5-8 students who would like to take on these special roles in our school. Please talk to your child to see if this is something your child could do as a way to give back to our parish.
Mass Times 6.00pm Saturday @ St Peters in Omakau 9.00am Sunday @ St John The Baptist in Alexandra
BOARD OF TRUSTEES Instead of a lot of words this week we thought we would share the intro page from our strategic plan - you may see this up around the school to help remind us all of our school vision. Our full plan is displayed in the foyer and on our school website.
PTA The AGM has been postponed and will be held 2 weeks from now, at 7:30 pm on Wednesday March 21. This meeting is open to ANYONE, you do not have to be a PTA member. We encourage mums and dads to come along to get informed about what it is we do; the more familiarity we have amongst families, the closer our school community will be! -we have had volunteers step up for the weekly sausage sizzle, PTA uniform shop help, class reps, and grant applications. BIG thanks to those parents! We are still in need of the following: -PTA members -A secretary for the PTA (This job includes taking the meeting minutes, then emailing them out afterwards. Also sending out the agenda prior to the next meeting, and keeping the PTA and class rep contact list up to date). -Someone to take over the management of tracksuits -Fundraising Co-ordinator - more class reps for each of the following three classrooms: -Room 7 (to assist Kirsty Anderson) -Room 5 (to assist Bernie Brown) -Room 6 (to assist Loretta Fonseca) Jen McLean will be distributing an info sheet soon to all class reps, so that the role is clear and everyone is on the same page.
The Uniform Shop has sport track pants for sale for $25.00. Children will be given tracksuit tops from the PTA to loan if they are representing the school, however children are expected to have the green track pants to go with the tops.
