University of California, Berkeley Request for Architect Qualifications Botanical Garden Access Improvements Project Number: 12683A Project Description The Berkeley campus of the University of California is seeking a Landscape Architect to perform programming, design, construction documents, and construction administration services for proposed access improvements at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Expected value of construction is $4.5 Million. Scope of Services Scope of services consist of development of Schematic Design (SD) documents, Design Development (DD) documents, Construction Documents (CD), and perform Construction Administration Services for the project. It is anticipated that the project will be phased over multiple years due to funding procurement. It may be necessary for the Landscape Architect to develop multiple bid package drawing sets. Landscape Architect shall be required to hire design sub consultants as necessary. Joint Ventures and Associations The University will not entertain Joint Ventures or Associations on this project. Project Delivery Method The project delivery method is expected to be Lump Sum Bid to a single or multiple contractors. Consultants The University is only selecting the Landscape Architect at this time. All sub-consultants, such as, but not limited to, Architectural , Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil, Structural, etc., will be later selected in collaboration with the selected firm.

Submittal Requirements and Selection Criteria The University of California, Berkeley, requests the following submittal material for use in selection of a professional design firm to perform the Scope of Services described above. Major considerations in selection of the firm will be the following: a. Demonstrated experience and excellence in the design of Landscape at university, institutional or corporate research facilities. b. Demonstrated firm and staff experience in site planning and university campus and/or urban design. c. Proven technical, scheduling, and cost management capabilities. Experience with the State Fire Marshal and Division of the State Architects, particularly on University projects within the State of California. d. Experience with institutional clients and building committees. e. Qualifications of the Principals and Project Team Members, including clear definition of the primary responsibility of each. f. Outline of the basic work plan to accomplish the work. g. Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 Each Occurrence and $4,000,000 per Project Aggregate. Proximity to the Berkeley campus – it is preferred that the Landscape Architect’s services to the project be provided primarily by an office within 25 miles of the UC Berkeley campus. Proposal Content Proposals must not exceed 10 pages and shall provide sufficient information to allow the University to evaluate the Consultant’s qualifications based on the above criteria. Qualifications statements should outline the specific comparable project experience, including scope, size, and value of work, with client contact information for no more than 3 projects. Qualifications statements should identify key staff that will be committed to the project on a day-to-day basis, include the firm’s fee schedule, and confirm the firm’s ability to start immediately and meet the project schedule. Selection Process The University will review all proposals and make a selection by August 31st, 2016. The successful firm will be required to sign the University’s Professional Services Agreement (PSA). Subsequently, prior to the start of Phase III scope of services, the firm will be contracted under the University’s Executive Design Professional Agreement (EDPA).
