WELCOME TO BRIGHTWATER SCHOOL: Room 12 – Lowenna Kitcher

Phone: 5423666 email: [email protected]

BE SUNSMART Children are required to wear broad-brimmed legionnaire or bucket hats when they are PROCEDURE outside (e.g. interval, lunch, sport, excursions and activities) during terms 1 and 4. 40km Road Signs The new 40km signs on Ellis Street have the ability for the school to analysis speed data along the stretch of road outside the school. The following graph shows data for the first 2 days the signs have been operating. We hope the signs will reduce the non-compliant cars around the pick-up and drop off times.

Waste Reduction The school has changed the size of its rubbish skip so it can be wheeled out to the rubbish truck rather than the truck having to enter the school carpark. We now have a much smaller skip and have set a challenge for the students/staff to reduce school waste by 62%. This is the size reduction from our old skip to the new one. Students are busy surveying classes and collectively looking for ways to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce waste at Brightwater School. This is an excellent environmental challenge for us all. I have removed the rubbish bin from my office and replaced it with a cardboard box so I can recycle the large amount of paper that comes across my desk. Keeping the lunchbox as free as possible from waste plastics would be a big help for us at school. Lost Property This year we are aiming to reduce the amount of lost property left at school. PLEASE name your children’s clothes, togs and towels. We have senior children allocated as lost property monitors and will take any articles found around the school twice a week to find owners. Naming articles makes this a simpler process to match people with property – your co-operation is appreciated. All lost property is now kept in the school office and no longer in the old dental clinic. A bunch of keys was found in the sandpit last week – are these yours? Please see the school office. Gala/Auction – 2nd July Even though our School Gala/Auction is four months away, now is preserving season! If you are creating jams, jellies, pickles or chutneys – we would love you to put a jar or two aside for our farm shop. With or on your jars could you supply a list of ingredients to meet our food safety standards. Any donation is gratefully received. If you would like to be part of our enthusiastic organising committee, please contact either Chantelle: 0210399402 or Karen: 02102671940 A newsletter with further information will be sent out next week. Money raised from last year’s Gala/Auction is to be spent on a new junior playground – planning is currently underway.
