MONSTER HUNTER NEMESIS (MONSTER HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL BOOK 5) BY LARRY CORREIA PDF

#5 in multiple New York Times bestseller Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter series. Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts—parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less. Sworn to serve and protect the United States of America from all monsters by one of the country’s founding fathers, Franks has only one condition to the agreement: no matter what the government learns of him, no matter what is discovered concerning his odd physiology or the alchemy behind the elixir that made him, the government is never, ever allowed to try and make more like him. Such is absolutely forbidden and should the powers-that-be do so, then the agreement is null and void. Project Nemesis: in a secret location, using sophisticated technology and advanced genetic engineering, the director of the very agency Franks works for is making more like him. And the director is not content with making one. Nope, he’s making thirteen. Now all bets are off, and Hell hath no fury like a monster betrayed. Particularly if that monster happens to be an undying killing machine capable of taking out vampires and werewolves with one hand tied behind his back. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). Go and buy some…for yourself and for stocking stuffers.”—Massad Ayoob About Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter Vendetta: “This lighthearted, testosterone-soaked sequel to 2009's Monster Hunter International will delight

fans of action horror with elaborate weaponry, hand-to-hand combat, disgusting monsters, and an endless stream of blood and body parts.”—Publishers Weekly The Monster Hunter Series Monster Hunter International Monster Hunter Vendetta Monster Hunter Alpha Monster Hunter Legion Monster Hunter Nemesis The Monster Hunters (Omnibus contains Monster Hunter International, Monster Hunter Vendetta, and Monster Hunter Alpha) Larry Correia is an award-winning competitive shooter, a movie-prop-gun master and, yes, an accountant by day—but an urban noir adventure master by night. Correia finally tells the story of Agent Franks...and it's a doozy. By Wes Seaton I was sorely tempted to title my review of Larry Correia's "Monster Hunter Nemesis" thusly: "Oh s***, it's Franks! Run!" Such was the dismayed reaction of a demon who - briefly, futilely and very, very unwisely attempted to fight off the enigmatic, badass killing machine otherwise known as Agent Franks of the federal Monster Control Bureau, in a flashback sequence from "Nemesis'" very first chapter. Not that running is really an option when facing Franks, for in addition to super strength and near indestructibility, Franks is *very* fast...and if you run from Franks you'll only die tired.

And probably in a lot of pain, because Franks hates it when his enemies run from him. Not that he likes them any better when they stand and fight, mind you. Not that Franks likes much of anybody, really. Or even cares what anybody thinks of him, for that matter. Part (literal) Frankenstein, part inhuman Terminator, possessed (again, literally) of Hell's own fury, totally unconcerned with collateral damage and a virtual law unto himself, Franks is what the feds of the Correiaverse turn to when they've tried everything else to deal with supernatural threats, including hiding under the covers and praying it would just go away. Most of them feel that way about Franks himself, with good reason. And a few of them want to replace Franks with something "better." Of course, it all goes horribly wrong. If you've read the prior books in the series, then you already know all this. If you haven't and "Monster Hunter Nemesis" is your intended introduction to the series, then you really should stop right here and read the first four novels before tackling this one, "Nemesis" picks up right where the fourth novel, "Monster Hunter Vendetta," left off (in the ruins of Las Vegas after a particularly horrific monster attack, by a creature straight out of nightmare), and deals with various subplots from the first four novels that here come to fruition. Not least of these are the machinations of the mysterious albino Stricken and his very black-ops, off-the-books "Special Task Force Unicorn" (otherwise known by the appropriate acronym of STFU) and Stricken's ongoing bureaucratic war with the MCB, Agent Franks and Franks' boss, Dwayne Myers. Whereas the MCB's goal is both defense against supernatural threats and concealing their very existence - because popular belief in the supernatural would only increase the magnitude of such threats, in the Correiaverse - the ruthless Stricken and STFU actively use supernatural beings to attack America's enemies. As such, they're in constant conflict with the MCB...and the Vegas attack gives Stricken the opportunity to take MCB down once and for all and make STFU the lead agency in supernatural defense. Among other things, Stricken wants to build new superhuman operatives akin to Agent Franks, using not only the centuries-old alchemy at Franks' core but the latest in modern technology. Thing is, when you have a perfectly good body lying around that doesn't happen to have a soul of its own, you never know what might decide to take up residence in it. And Stricken - stupidly, and in violation of that treaty mentioned in the book jacket copy - has already built thirteen of them... Also stupidly, as part of his campaign against the MCB, Stricken seeks to remove the original Franks from the equation by framing him for a violent terrorist attack on MCB headquarters. At which point - this would be Chapter Four of the novel - the plot kicks from top gear to overdrive as a outlawed and thus completely unrestrained Agent Franks basically takes on the world to save America from literally (there's that word again; what did I do with that thesaurus?) ALL THE DEMONS OF HELL. And some things that are even WORSE than that. Like, Lovecraft worse.

"Monster Hunter Nemesis" is yet another fast-paced, high-octane thrill ride in Correia's "Monster Hunter" series, with the author's trademark blend of occasionally gory, high body-count horror, scifi/fantasy, gunplay and a deliciously warped sense of humor. There's little of the politics some claim to find objectionable in Correia's writing here, unless the lethal sort of "office politics" in the confrontation between Stricken's STFU and the Monster Control Bureau counts as such. In this book, however, most of the series' core protagonists such as Earl Harbinger, Owen and Julie play a supporting role, because this, first and foremost, is the story of Agent Franks. (Although several other subsidiary characters from the series, notably Grant, Archer, and particularly Myers and Heather, figure prominently in "Nemesis" storyline as well.) In "Nemesis" we get not only the tale of Franks' origins and motivations, which have only been hinted at up until now; it's also, in a sense, the story of Franks' search for humanity...and perhaps, his redemption. It's also the apocalyptic payoff of several plotlines that have been building from the very first book of the series...and the setup for apocalypses yet to come. I give "Nemesis" five stars out of five...in a series that hasn't had a dull book yet. 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Rip roaring, explosive fun with Agent Franks By Bibliophile This is the first Larry Correia book I have read. I started with this one because I was provided with a free advance reader copy so that I could review it. As such according to the publisher the final edition may vary from what I read. I have read Larry Correia's writing before; from the THR thread that became Dead Six to the first few chapter of MHI that is on Baen's website. That said, the book was gripping and action packed from the start to the finish. I read it in less than two days and I enjoyed it all the while. The action scenes are top notch and they flow so well that I wonder how Mr. Correia knows so much about supernatural combat because he writes it as if it actually happened. His characters are engaging and complex and it was especially interesting to see Agent Franks thought process and to see him learn more about humanity and to experience a hint of emotions from time to time. I imagine many writers would have a hard time writing a believable and likeable main character devoid of feeling and who cares only for his mission, but he pulls it off here. The story seems like a typical secret government agency conspiracy thriller but with monsters, demons, a little Mormon theology and of course Agent Franks. The book is written in a lighthearted tone that softens the gut ripping, blood spattered hand to hand combat scenes. The dry, ironic and dark humor elements make for some light moments in an otherwise action focused book. The dialogue and characters seem fitting with the alternate universe the author has created and his attention to detail with weapons and special equipment is appreciated. The historical flashbacks help develop Agent Franks history without adding unnecessary detail. The author is adept at taking the reader inside the minds of other characters, namely the bad guys but without giving away too many surprises. This story picks up where the last book left off and it leaves room for the next sequel so don't expect too much resolution in this book. I would have liked to see a little more wrap up after the final battle scene regarding who survived, what happened to the secret lab/base and how the Monster Control Bureau is going to deal with the mass release of information on the internet and

with their internal struggles. I suppose I just have to wait for the next one to come out while I catch up on the first books in the series. This book deserves five stars for its well written story, enjoyable characters and engaging action scenes. 26 of 28 people found the following review helpful. A great installment in the series. By Chris If you are a fan of the Monster Hunter series then you are going to enjoy this. I devoured it over several late nights reading. It has lots of Larry Correia's trade marked action scenes and guns, lots and lots of guns. There is some discussion of politics creeping in but I suppose a book that starts in Washington and feature inter-departmental infighting is going to have some discussion as to the role of government in people's lives. Whether or not this counts as "message fic" depends largely on your personal taste ( or politics). In either case it does not overpower the story. I recommend this book to anyone who likes their action to come with explosions and a wide variety of property damage. See all 464 customer reviews...
