The product description states that this book has been enhanced by larger print. That is not so! The print is a direct photocopy of the very small newsprint of a century ago, and most of the pictures are unrecognizable as they are smudged or just black blobs. The history of events, towns, people, etc. is in alphabetical order, and volume I ends with "Hydropathic Medical Institute." The title is misleading also. "History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography" sounds as though this is a complete reference book. Not so. It should add which volume it is and which part of the alphabet is included. I was seeking information from "S" and "W". Imagine my disappointment
to find hard-to-read, old-newspaper-type print in a hefty, not-cheap volume that offered virtually nothing I wanted. And, as mentioned, the information is not only dated, but rife with the biases of that period. I am disappointed at Amazon for not having vetted this book before offering it up with the deceptive description obviously submitted by the BiblioLife people. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Its use in preparing a presentation to present before a historical society proved highly beneficial. Anyone who is interested in a history of the South and especially Alabama will want this book.
