REPLY BY JUNE 30, 2014 The James River Ranger District (Covington, Virginia) and Warm Springs Ranger District (Hot Springs, Virginia) are currently seeking candidates for a permanent full time forestry technician position. This position will perform a wide variety of duties in support of the timber and silvicultural programs. Major tasks include timber stand improvement, reforestation, stand exams, site preparation, contract inspections, insect and disease surveys, timber marking, and wildlife habitat improvement. This position will be expected to assist in other resource management areas such as fire (both prescribed and wildfire suppression, within training and physical capabilities), lands (mostly boundary line maintenance), and road maintenance work (basic items like right-of-way clearing and culvert/ditch maintenance).
