We Need a Day of National Prayer The National Day of Prayer is observed every first Thursday in May annually.
ORT Phase One Precedes National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2
America needs prayer. Desperately. In the wisdom of God, our past national leaders have designated one day a year as a day of prayer. However, we need to do more than proclaim a day of fasting and intercession. We need to actually do it. Our current government is a result of the lack of prayer in the American Church. The same can be said of other elements in our culture: business, education, arts and entertainment, healthcare, etc. American families are in the state they are in because of the prayer life of the American Church. How is this so? Our role in society is to be salt and light. In addition, we are to be drawing the lost to the Lord by our vibrant lives. If we were truly the praying church, we would see God’s kingdom established in powerful ways in our nation—ways that would guide our political leaders and impact every sphere and touch every family. We need to start taking responsibility for our lukewarm attitude toward prayer instead of blaming non-Christians for their ungodly behavior. We who are the light are pointing our fingers at the darkness and saying, “Shame on you,” when we should be driving out the darkness with our brightness. We need to repent. We need blazing, refining revival fire. We need a national day to earnestly cry out to the Lord for His mercy-- the National Day of Prayer.
We have begun Operation Rolling Thunder Phase One. Our goal is to pray continually for the month leading up to the National Day of Prayer. Many churches are supporting this effort by taking a 24-hour day to pray. We Come to another Crossroads: Traditional Marriage The last time our nation faced a major court battle of this magnitude was the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973 that legalized abortion. Pray for the US Supreme Court as they decide on two cases that will impact the definition of traditional marriage in America. One case is whether or not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. The other case seeks to strike down Proposition 8 in California where the people voted to affirm traditional marriage. Decisions are expected to be handed down in June, 2013.
Topeka and Kansas Observe National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2 You are invited to join other Christian believers in the capital city in observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The citywide prayer and worship gathering will be 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Central Park Christian Church. The church is located at 1535 SW Clay near Central Park in Topeka. This year's theme is Clean Hands, Pure Heart, taken from Psalm 24:3-5. "Who may ascend the
mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior." The evening will include prayer led by local community and church leaders. Worship will be led by a combined citywide team. There will also be a statewide observance of the National Day of Prayer at noon in the state capitol rotunda. The honorary chair of the National Day of Prayer Task Force this year is Greg Laurie. He is senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California and Harvest Orange County in Irvine, California.
An excerpt of his prayer for 2013 is: "Send a mighty spiritual awakening that will turn the hearts of men and women, boys and girls back to You. You have told us if we will humble ourselves and pray, and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways, that You will forgive our sins and heal our land. (2 Chronicles7:14) Forgive us today, Lord, and heal this troubled land that we love so much. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ." A main focus of Operation Rolling Thunder is to support the National Day of Prayer by engaging in non-stop prayer leading up to this national prayer call which is held each year in May.
