prepare for the season of Lent. Personally, I am looking forward to Lent because God always prepares a big surprise gift for me. Every Lent, I encounter God in new and fresh ways and my love for God grows deeper and deeper. How about you?

Greetings from Juhye Hahn, Student Intern Pastor! I can’t believe that it already has been four months since I started my internship at Commack UMC. Time really flies. From the first day of the internship, I received a warm welcoming, which made me feel at home. It has been a great and wonderful learning and growing experience. Above all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Rev. Lynda Bates-Stepe and the whole congregation who graciously provided me the opportunities to participate in various parts of the church ministries including Sunday worship services. Those experiences helped me to reflect on the role of a spiritual leader in a church.

What is Lent like for you? As I continue my journey on a student pastoral internship, I am planning to lead a small group on prayer. The invitation is opened to everyone who wants to learn and practice prayer as his or her spiritual discipline during Lent. I believe that Lent is a special time of God’s blessing for all of us who want to grow and to have a deeper relationship with God. We will make a more detailed announcement, as we get closer to Lent. If you have any question regarding the small prayer group, feel free to speak to me on Sunday. Thank you all again for all your love and support!

When I began the internship, I thought I would simply learn some “techniques” and “methods” in ministry such as how to prepare a sermon and how to lead worship services and meetings. Of course, I learned them as well. However, more deeply, I really learned the heart of the pastor for his/her congregation. I learned to receive everyone in the congregation as God’s gift for me to love. I realized that this love is more important than any skills I can learn in ministry. I also tasted God’s grace and love through your warm care and support. Thanks be to God!

Peace, Juhye Hahn __________________________________________

MITTEN MINISTRY Florence Schneckenberger and Florence Critelli have diligently crocheted the many mittens, hats and scarves that have been distributed, along with our PB&J sandwiches to the homeless on Long Island. However, the cold weather and the need is still with us, if anyone wishes to contribute their knitting & crochet talents in this ministry, please contact me. I have easy patterns, but DONATIONS OF YARN are sorely needed. Kathy Muller ______________________________________

We welcome three newcomers and we Thank them for Volunteering: Linda Ciani, Vicky Zinkavitch and Tim Sampson. There will be a change at the Communion Table. Pastor Lynda has suggested we use two Chalices for Grape juice, so as not to obstruct the leaving of the Communion Table. If anyone has any suggestions for the Worship Committee, please let us know. Thanks Betty Carson __________________________________________

We speak with different accents We come from different lands, Our threads of kin and culture Are worked in different strands, Yet still they make a pattern So intricate and fine, That thought we may not see it Their colours blend and shine. And though we all are different Each life one goal should span— To make our thread of being As perfect as we can. Margaret Ingall
