ATTENDANCE UPDATE….. Aloha Families! Having all of our students in school, every day is one of our main goals at SBES! Learning is a continuous and progressive process where each day builds upon the previous days activities. Having
students participate daily in classroom discussions plays a significant role in student success. When students are in school they are not only learning academically, but socially and emotionally as well. If your child is sick please call the front office to let us know. We are still working towards achieving 95% student attendance every day! Mahalo, Ms.Nicole
What is the Battle of the Books? The Ko’olauloa Battle of the Books is
an afterschool, extra-curricular program for North Shore area elementary school children that makes reading social. It’s similar to a child’s version of a quiz game show where teams of students compete for prizes to answer the most questions correctly books from preselected reading lists. It is organized by the Kahuku Public and School Library and implemented by parent volunteers and supported by participating school staff. This is the only multi-school, face to face, interactive reading competition in Hawaii for 1st to 6th grade elementary students organized by a public library. Last year, four schools participated: Kahuku, La’ie, Homeschool and Hau’ula Elementary Schools. This year we would like Sunset Beach Elementary to participate!! Our school PTCA has already funded and ordered extra books for our library to help with this competition!! Battle of the Books registration forms went out to students in grade 1 – 6 last week to be turned in asap in
order to get our grade levels teams started and ready for the competition on March 17 or 18th!!! If you need a registration form, we have extras in the office. The deadline to turn in forms will be Wednesday, November 23rd

Reducing Lunch Waste We are striving to reduce the waste produced during breakfast and lunch in our school cafeteria. If your child brings reusable flatware to school to use during breakfast and lunch, that is one less single use plastic fork getting thrown away at each meal. Thanks for thinking green!!
Call for Old SmartPhone Donations! If you have a SmartPhone that still has a charger and is working, but you no longer need it, we are looking for donations to be able to use our Virtual Reality devices. We would like to have the students experience 360 degree environments and learn about places that we might not be able to physically travel. If you have a device that you are willing to donate, please drop it off at the school office. Thank You!!
Scholastic Book Fair Mahalo…… Thank you to the parent volunteers and all of you who shopped at our Scholastic Book Fair. We raised $3,000.00 in credit towards books from Scholastic. Also, don’t forget to try out our shared ebook collection located on the school web site. If anyone has questions, you are welcome to stop by the library in the mornings before the bell. Keep reading Sharks!! Ms.Patty and Ms.Howes.

Tripod Student Perception Survey In November or December, your child will be asked to complete the Tripod Student Perception Survey, a confidential survey that serves as one of several measures used for the evaluation of teachers. Your child’s responses to the survey represent his/her perspective on his/her experience in school and in the classroom, classroom behaviors, and interactions with other students. Each student’s answers are confidential, will not be identified with the individual student, and will be processed at the survey company’s facility. Summaries of students’ responses are reported to the DOE’s leaders and your child’s teacher to improve educational practices. A permission form will be Sent home for your child to take the Tripod Survey or not. Thank You!!
