NORTHERN DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SOUTH AFRICA-CUBA SCHOLARSHIP 2015 FIELD OF STUDY: MBCHB/MEDICINE The South African Government in conjunction with the Cuban Government, as part of a bilateral agreement signed between the two Governments has embarked into the Cuban Medicine Scholarship Programme, which gives an opportunity to South African Students to study medicine in Cuba over a period of six years. The first year of the training requires the students to study the Spanish language for a year and five years of medical training in Spanish before returning to South Africa for a period of clinical orientation which is over a year period. ELIGIBILITY South African Citizen permanently residing in the Northern Cape Must have passed Matric/Grade 12 with an exemption. Must not be above 25 years of age SELECTION CRITERIA Permanent residence of the Northern Cape Province Must have completed Grade12/Matric with Exemption (Admission to a Bachelors degree)

Students already studying or have obtained a tertiary qualification in Health sciences can also apply with the above learning areas as majors. Applicants from designated groups will be given preference (race, gender, etc.) Should be prepared to undergo a Medical Examination and Police Clearance. Preference will be given to applicants from predominantly rural areas within the province and from disadvantaged background.
