Dear Parents and Friends of the School Term 1 is quickly coming to an end and what a busy term it has been. On behalf of the staff we wish everyone a blessed Easter and a safe and restful holiday break.

Young Leaders Day Yesterday our Year 7/8 students attended Catholic Young Leaders Day. It was held at St Joseph’s in Timaru. The day began with a Liturgy followed by the Roncalli Head Boy and Girl speaking about their leadership journeys. The children then attended two workshops. Options were Art, Meditation, Fun Prayers, Digital Prayers, Team Building and Trust. These were then followed by an address by the Mayor Damon Odey and other Roncalli students in leadership roles. The day concluded with a Liturgy.

Palm Sunday This Saturday evening, we celebrate Palm Sunday with our school Mass at 6pm. Everyone is to meet outside the admin block at 5.50pm where the palms will be blessed before we process to the church. If it is wet, we will meet on the veranda of the church. The children will be acting out the Passion of Jesus Christ. We look forward to celebrating together as we enter Holy Week. Jubilate On Tuesday 11 April Room 4 and the Year 5 girls will be singing as part of the South and Mid Canterbury Catholic Schools Choir. The concert starts at 1pm in the Sacred Heart Basilica. The rest of the school will be bused in to be part of the audience. Everyone is welcome to come and see the children perform. Transport: Thank you to Mrs H. Andrews, Mrs Scannell, Mrs Styles and Mrs Donaldson who have offered to help transport the children to and from the Basilica. We will be leaving school at 10.15am thank you. Stations of the Cross On Thursday 13 April we will finish the term with a School Liturgy on the Stations of the Cross. This will be held in the church starting at 2.00pm. All children will be participating and the art work has been done by the Year 6 children. Everyone is welcome to join us. Anzac Day Anzac Day this year falls in the school holidays. Helen Andrews has kindly offered to make a floral wreath to take to the service at the Victor Wilson Hall commencing at 8am on Tuesday 25 April. If you would like to join Helen and her family that would be lovely. Children please wear your uniform. Tackling Technology The Year 7/8 students will attend a session run by Attitude which is the Youth arm of Parents Inc. on Tackling Technology on Mon 15 May at Pleasant Point Primary. They are offering a Tackling Technology Parent Evening that night from 7-8pm in the Victor Wilson Hall at Pleasant Point Primary. “Get the confidence and skills you need to be proactive when tackling technology. Topics include insights into the modern digital world, brain development, text bullying, gadget addiction and online safety. We address utilising technology for all its good parts while keeping realistic boundaries. We empower parents to feel confident while monitoring technology use in their household.” Have A Go Day The year 7/8’s participated in Have A Go Day last Friday. They played rugby, hockey, netball and tried inline skating. It was heaps of fun.

Baptism/Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Thank you to those who have returned their forms. If you are interested in your children receiving these Sacraments, please return your slips by Thursday 13th April. The Great Kiwi Science, English and Maths Competitions If you would like your child (Year 5-8) to enter either the Science, English or Maths Competitions, entries close tomorrow. May - Month of Mary For the first 5 weeks of next term (to celebrate the Month of Mary) we will be saying the Rosary each Wednesday. If your child has their own Rosary beads it would be lovely for your child to bring them along to school for them to use.

Please do not rely on siblings to get the message to us, as they can get forgotten in the busy morning activities. You can either leave a message on the answer phone – 614 7202, or text the school cell phone – 0204 081 3545. Please ensure that you ring us prior to 9.15am. Lost and Found Outside near the swings after Mass last weekend – a small round green Tupperware container. Claire has this in the office if you think it might be yours.
