NEWSLETTER No.10

KAPA HAKA Congratulations to all those who took part in the festival on Sunday. You did us and yourselves proud. A special thank you to Mr Yeoman and Mrs Beilby for their preparation and also to Mrs Tamati for her expert support. “ It was fun to see all the Maori songs performed by the other schools but it was a little scary performing in front of the big crowd. I really enjoyed singing the last song - Aotearoa with all the other schools. I liked the actions we did for it. I think its really fun to do, it's a good experience and others should join kapa haka”. Mrs Eastwood will make contact with her friend in Vanuatu at Port Vila International school to see if this can take place. Thank you to parents for their support here. EOTC REVIEW Thank you to those who contributed to this review earlier in the year. Results: Over all there were 35 replies. 17 confirmed they were happy with the EOTC as it is and shared some great positive thoughts about the programmes and what they liked. There were suggestions of less nights away from home for years 1,2,3,4, years 3,4,5,6 wanting localised EOTC with an agreement on Dunedin but suggestion to remove the museum programme, plus a query in regards to the Stewart Island camp and its issues with weather and cost. A change for term 1 rather than term 4 was also suggested. The staff have taken on board the suggestions and have come up with this 2 year cycle. Year A 2015 Day trip Farm/local Overnight -Term 1

Year 3/4

Year 1 /2

This year we have been unable to run the year 7 & 8 camp in term 1 due to unavailability of accommodation. We plan to run Bannockburn in term 4 this year and from then on term 1. This will cause a problem with term 4 and then a term 1 camp for this age group for next year only. We are planning to address that early with the families involved. WINTER SKILLS PROGRAMME• Ice skating- years 1,2,3,4 • Curling & possibly Ice hockey - Years 7 & 8 • Indoor sports – years 5 & 6 ( e.g table tennis, badminton etc) EOTC WEEK - term 4 Local activities with no/minimal cost utilising the area around Alexandra. – Years 1 - 8 FUNDRAISING This will continue to be an option and we are looking at developing a procedure that states very clearly how fundraising is shared and banked. SWIMMING We are attempting to work with the pool to ensure that we do not swim and do ice skating at the same time. Thank you again for your suggestions and support in this area. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

A Prayer for Holy Week This week is the final week of Lent – Holy Week.  It is a time for entering into the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus, a time for new life and growth.  During this week let us unite in prayer as we pray: Lord Jesus Christ, in this sacred and solemn week when we see again the depth and mystery of your redeeming love, help us to follow where you go, to stop where you stumble, to listen when you cry, to hurt as you suffer, to bow our heads in sorrow as you die, so that, when you are raised to life again, we may share in your endless joy. Amen. nd
